View Full Version : Crookes food, takeouts - what's best?
Where are the best takeaways and restaurants close by to Crookes?
also whats the bus numbers and pick up points near to punchbowl pub to get into town and back?
thanks much appreciated
The 52 bus is every few minutes and there's loads of bus stops. Plenty of different eateries too.
Just don't go to Maria's Italian Restaraunt... I think even I could do a better job of waiting on tables than their staff... :loopy:
Yeah I know I shouldn't still be banging on about that nearly a year later but it was one of the most embarrassing nights of my life.
I'll dig out the thread about it so you can have a laugh.
There is a bus stop directly outide the Punchbowl.
eateries: Jaflong, Francos, Spinrocks (tapas), Indian Chef are all good.
Marias is next to the Punchbowl but I reckon you'd get served quicker if you got a take away from Leeds.
There is a Pizza Hut, Chinese (very good), 2 chippies (use Admiral), Pissa Pizza (again very good) and Indian Chef/Jaflong also do take outs.
I had a takeaway from Jaflong last week and it was awful - gonna try Indian Chef next time as I've heard it's good.
I've had some really really nice meals in Maria's and I have never had bad service at all. I went once and there was 8 of us and the service couldn't have been better. Oh, and you can take your own wine.
Rajput on Commonside is my absolute favourite Indian Takeaway, the best onion bajis and bombay potato in the world! Indian Chef doesn't even compare (once found a staple in my paneer from there!). Have heard that Jaflong is good too.
Thanks for that Rebecca - might give Rajput a try next time!
BruciesBabe 24-05-2005, 11:18 We frequent Francos every week - the food is cheap and lovely - its bring ya own wine, so good value too.
I agree with the Maria's sentiments - the service is appauling and rude!

Seconded, gorgeous food, good prices and its only 2 minutes from my house (which is a bad thing :suspect: )
Are you lot on glue!
The best place to eat in Crookes, without a doubt is BROOMHEADS chippy. It si by far the best in Sheffield

will second Rajput.. Didn't mention it as down the hill. I haven't used Jaflong for a couple of years but used to use it quite often (great Veggie dishes)
Terraviva 25-05-2005, 18:33 The chinese takeaway in Crookes is excellent. Personally I'm not keen on Indian Chef either, horrible ambiance in there & food not great. Will try Rajput though :)
Francos is nice, ok food but tiny and is the most yorkshire version of an italian restaurant I've ever been in! They do have the most amazing & extensive ice cream sundae list I have EVER seen
Spin Rocs is the most 'restauranty' of the bunch; lovely atmosphere, good menu but perhaps a tad over priced.
Agree that Indian Chef is not very good found bunch not just one hair in my food once not been back since. Spinrocs is excellent if eating out. Otherwise chinese on School Road good- sorry forget name
Rajput for me too - best curry house this side of town, but don't deliver, dammit.
Always been ok at Marias tho.
Is Spinrocs still ok? I was told it changed hands last year and the food wasn't anywhere near as good, but could have just been a one off.
Not to put anyone off the Rajput, but I found a rusty screw in an onion bahji from there about a month ago.
They grovelled sufficiently for me not to report them to trading standards, but I've really gone off indian food since.
IMHO Rajput has been the best Indian takeaway on this side of town for the last 15 years (going back to when it was Ramdahna's).
Jimbhuna 02-06-2005, 22:51 My god, my specialist subject!
Eating in Crookes! :-)
Could write an essay but would end up upsetting someone accidently and getting barred from an eatery! Can't run the risk...
They are all lovely!
