Their mother Julie Atkins, 38, who said the girls were too young and had ruined their lives, blamed schools for providing poor quality sex education.

Errr... I would have thought that was her job :loopy:

She can't blame the do-gooders for this.

But wait! There's more:

I don't care what people say about me. I blame the schools - sex education for young girls should be better.

and finally:

If I could turn back the clock, I would prefer them not to have children. Their education is so important

I suspect she will sue the school :suspect:

The funniest bit about that is their children's names: Amani, T-Jay and Lita!!! :loopy:

The scariest thing is I'm going through Derby now on train - definitely staying on board if these sort of people are outside :loopy:

It's the part about the school rather than the mum being to blame that gets me as well, I had to laugh when I read about that. Honestly, if there are no other 'gymslip mums' in the entire school, but ....er....three in the one family, then I think I can work out what the common denominator is here!! :)

That's exactly what I thought. The school system is not, and never has been, the place for teaching kids how not to screw their lives up by getting pregnant at 12. Sure, some effort is made, but ultimately responsibility lies at the door of the parents. If the schools efforts are to no avail, it's because they are not backed up at home.

This obvious shirking of responsibility makes me sick. If she doesn't want to take responsibility for her kids, how are the grandkids going to turn out? Telling her daughters it was the school's fault that they got pregnant! Now she's screwing her kids up by telling them that to always blame someone else, and screwing her grandkids up by perpetuating the cycle

I read about this in the Metro this morning.

Apparently the 16 year old got pregnant after having a "relationship" with a 38 year old man. I'm sorry but if my 16 year old daughter told me she was seeing a man 22 years older than her I would have to put my foot down and stop them from seeing each other. How can the school be to blame for that???

I read that 1 of the girls had already had an abortion and 2 miscarriges, so obviously the Mother must have known that at Least 1 of her daughters had had sex at least 3 times, so why didn't she sit them all down and explain about contraceptives before they started breeding for england.

I am the only one that feels a little bit sorry for these girls having their mum sell the story to the Sun, and then being ridiculed in every pub/workplace/forum in the country?! Obviously little Amani, T-Jay and Lita will grow up just as f'd up as their mums and grandmother and will probably have their own kids at 12, and the whole vicious cycle will continue.

Apparently it was a secret affair. If the mum was like the mums of teenage mum's around here then she was probably sending them out on the streets till the early hours just so she didn't have to have them in her house! People keep blaming the increase in teenage pregnancies on the "lack" of sex education in schools, but since sex education has been increased teenage pregnancies have increased too! I think it is more to do with parents' attitudes. On our street there is more than one family who allow their under-10 year olds to play outside unattended and go to the park as late as 10pm without adults... will they be blaming the schools for whatever happens to their kids?

My niece has had a contraceptive implant in her arm which lasts about 5 years I think, she said it hurt like hell but was worth it to help reduce the risk on getting pregnant, perhaps if more teenagers knew abouyt it they would have the same thing.

One of the girls was 12 though. The fact is that *children* should not be having sex, therein lies the problem.

How old is your niece? If more teenagers had the same thing, would they feel it was safe to have lots of sex with different people just because they couldn't get pregnant? They'd still be picking up the diseases though and the difficulty of having meaningful relationships in the future.

She's 15, and she has had a good talking to about STD's and using condoms etc, we're very open about talking about this kind of thing in my family.
I'm not sure if she has actually had sex, I think it's more of "just in case" scenario.

Yet another parent abdicating all responsibility for their own children's behaviour! :suspect:

The responsibility for the social, moral and educational welfare of children lies fairly and squarly with the parents.

Schools are a 'bonus' provided by the state to educate children so that they are literate and numerate and hopefully better able to achieve their potential in terms of future employment and become and active and positive member of society.

Couldn't agree with you more Kathythebean. These kinda stories really sadden me. I feel sorry for those girl's. They have been let down badly by their mother. And it does make you think what chance have the wee babbies got.

For ****'s sake

What is happening?

I love it, the Mother says "I blame the schools"

You're the one to blame love, many people have been through the state school system (including myself) and you don't see the majority of them having kids at 12,14,16.

The Mother and her daughters are a disgrace, I'm sorry to put it like that but it's the truth.

Those implants can have some nasty side effects, I'm suprised a doctor would prescribe them to a 15 year old.
Surely if kids are going to have sex they would be better of using condoms. There has been a big rise in STDs over the last 5 years and implants are not going to help.

Keep a close eye out for the depression side effects. It can be very nasty.

Is it just me or is anyone else trying to get their head around the vision of a 12 year old girl being a mum. I have a sister of only just 13 and the thought of her having a baby frightens me. Physically a child of 12 surely is not equipped for pregnancy - their bodies are just too small.

It's not the school's fault, parents should make sure their children understand the consequences of their actions.

Its just been on the news - no comment from Mr Atkins...(if there is one) however - chavs the lot of them....

They'll probably win in court too - watch Max Clifford come out of the woodwork to represent them.... he likes that sort.

the fact is ... blame the parents! parents control their childrens lives, or at least should? if the children are told the right from wrong its up to the parent to make sure their kids are on the right side of life, its too easy to blame teachers etc: teachers have them to teach or at least try for 6hours a day, who has them for the other 18?

It'll just be an outrage if they win in court.... as madowl has pointed out teachers watch the kids (that's right these mothers are KIDS) for 6 hours a day! That's all!

They're funny because they're stereotypical council estate chav baby names that ooze tackiness. You can't see what's funny about a baby called Amani?! I literally laughed out loud when reading it.

Well, I'm not sure if the girl in question was 15 or 16 but even if 16 I think he should be investigated all the same.

Sure but feeling sorry for children is ok, its not condoning it, its just pity! You can't really blame the prime minister for these children getting pregnant, either, whats he supposed to do, run around popping condoms on people at the last minute?
