Recently upgraded the RAM in my son's laptop. All went well, the new memory is shown as being accepted and OK.
Periodically - there's no pattern - he gets a quick blue screen warning of something, which is instantly followed by his laptop rebooting.
There's absolutely no chance of reading the warning - it's too quick to disappear ahead of the reboot.
Isn't there a way of "freezing" said blue screen, or is there a way of easily finding out what the warning concerned after the machine's up-and-running again?
Your help appreciated...thank you!

Meant to mention before - I also ran windiag to test the new memory, and the tests ran clean with no problem shown.....

you can stop automatic reboot you know.
Here's How:
1.
Navigate to the Control Panel in Windows XP by left-clicking on Start, followed by Settings and then choosing Control Panel.
2.
In the Control Panel window, open System.
Note: In Microsoft Windows XP, depending on how your operating system is setup, you may not see the System icon. To correct this, click on the link on the left-hand side of the Control Panel window that says Switch to Classic View.
3.
In the System Properties window, click on the Advanced tab.
4.
Locate the Startup and Recovery area and click on the Settings button.
5.
In the Startup and Recovery window, locate and uncheck the check box next to Automatically restart.

however you have upgraded the ram and it maybe a compatibility issue. My laptop came with 128mb of DDR which i upgraded to 1048mb. The manual did say DO NOT put any more in as it would cause system instability, which sounds what your having.

Thanks for the advice, Eric.
According to the Toshiba manual, it should be able to take 2Gb maximum - I've gone for 2 x 1Gb as opposed to one unit.
I've checked 'em both individually and together - windiag etc - and both results seem to indicate all OK, but....
Right type, correct speed - no overclocking here!
Took the machine back to the original 512Mb, and have to admit no problems since.
(Famous last words....!)
