Hi,

My friend's got a little boy who will be about 11 months old at Crimbo, he also turns 1 in January. I want to get him something for crimbo and then something for his birthday also.

I don't really want to buy clothes as I know he's over run with them! I was thinking of perhaps a toy or something else???? I don't really want to spend more than £10 on each present.

Any ideas welcome!

get yourself down to Boots! they have a lot of kids toys on the 3 for 2, they do early learning centre stuff too! so you could get both gifts and something for yourself :hihi::hihi:

£7-£10 gifts

At that age your best of seeing what his mum needs for him or what about something to remember when he is older like those handprint casts?
what about making a baby hamper of treats especially for little ones and handy things like a rescue/activity kit for keeping him entertained when mum takes him out.

i agree with waxon, they get so many toys especially with birthday and xmas so close together, both my girls are like that and its a nightmare! you could get a handprint thing, or something with a photo on as a keepsake, then maybe just a cheap toy for little one to open themselves?

Get down to Home Bargins as they have some good fisher price toys and Leap Frog.

I would ask mum what he needs because it's a strange one this sh will either get 100's of toys or eveyone will think the same thing and he will end up with nothing.

BTW books are always good at this age if you shop round you will get some good bargins.

I have the same problem at the moment, 1st birthday in february. I am going to get early learning centre vouchers for both Christmas and birthday then will buy something bigger when she is ready for it. I am asking friends to do the same.

If you don't know what to buy put the money in the bank.

I went shopping yesterday to buy for my 2 year old daughter walked round toys r us for 1 hour looking at rubbish just so that I can say this is what mummy and daddy bought.:loopy:

My new years resolution has been brought forward decided not to buy things for the sake of it and cut my spending down as I just can't afford it.

One bit of advice however if you have room we bought my daughter an outdoor activity cube last year because most places have offers of outdoor stuff in winter so we got that a wendy house and a little trike all for £100 she loves it and we saved ourselves £100 on buying the wendy house in summer and spending an extra one of £80 in summer as I would have bought it anyway.

Why dont you ask your friend if the baby has a bank account that you could possibly put some money into if theres nothing you could really think of buying for baby.

Why not try and put some money towards a big thing maybe for the baby.

We've been thinking about presents and things recently, and looking around at our house which is literally bursting at the seams, mostly with toys & stuff, so the last thing we are after is more toys from anyone. We are going to be asking our families to either contribute to our son's child trust fund, his bank account, a fund for a big toy we are planning on getting him sometime next year (we asked for contributions for this for birthday & Christmas last year too!) or stuff for the garden. Our son loves playing in the garden, and fiddling with plants etc. We are eager to make the place a bit more rivetting for him than a plain lawn - he keeps attacking our next door neighbours garden instead.

It may sound a bit killjoy, but actually we enjoy the family time at Christmas and birthdays far more than presents, plus we really don't have the spare money to be spending on presents, especially if they end up in a never ending pool of STUFF.:hihi::loopy:

Thanks for those ideas, they're really helpful. I've seen some nice interactive "big books" today with touchy feely parts and noisy things and I thought that might be an idea for one of the presents.

Here's a similar idea to waxonwaxoff, although it might be a more appropriate gift for parent/grandparents-
I run my own business producing handcrafted pure silver fingerprint jewellery and keepsakes. I work from a small workshop at home, I make all of the jewellery myself by hand, totally from scratch. All of my pieces are 99.9% silver, so it really is fine jewellery and not the usual sterling silver.
The silver begins life as a clay which is fired at a high temperature and becomes pure silver! This means that a persons finger can be pressed directly into the clay to take an imprint, which makes the piece totally unique and individual. I either travel to customers homes to take the prints (if it isn't too far away) or the customer can come to my home.
There's something for everyone - individual charms, cufflinks, pendants, bookmarks, keyrings etc. I can engrave each piece with names, dob or a special message, or if you wish they can be set with a gemstone.

Please drop me an e-mail if you would like further details - theuniqueboutique@live.co.uk

Thanks
