View Full Version : Wedding favours
seeyoujimmy 04-04-2007, 10:32 I'm making my own wedding favours, i've bought the net circles and ribbon and now i've got to think of what to put in them, as my wedding doesn't seem to be going down the traditional route i didn't really fancy sugared almonds in mine, I've been thinking along the lines of Jelly Beans or Dolly Mixtures.
So....what are you putting in yours and can anyone give me any more ideas?!
hey jimmy, im putting love hearts in mine. You can actually get little rolls of them with just married written on the wrapper!

I saw them! You can get the sweets with just married on too but they are really expensive!
I put those fortune telling fish and a heart shaped chocolate in my favour boxes. People loved them. Thought they were amusing.
Ginger_Kitty 04-04-2007, 16:15 We also didn't go down the traditional route...
we had no favours at all ;) :o
Tanya T 1 04-04-2007, 20:23 Try www.confetti.com for ideas
Oh my god just come across this fab website called world-of-wedding-favours.com and it has all sorts of things you can put in your favours - I especially like the flying saucers!!! Take a look
I was going to say, what about small pieces of chocolate in foils? You can make your own on a budget. I was reading a Green & Black cook book on tempering chocolate. So, you can mould it to any shape that you like. Very personalised, but takes a while to do.
There's also a lot of mini chocolate eggs around this time of the year cos it's Easter. I've seen some really nice ones by Lindt. It works out to be less than 10 per chocolate. Or some Mini Kinder egg choc, which are just as nice. Pop down to your local Woolies to check them out.
Or using something like that "Baci" kiss chocolate for wedding favours are great. If you are going to Cyprus, you may be able to get some at the airport. They're Italian chocolate which has a small it of paper inside it with a lovely proverb or romantic saying.
Mini champagne bottles of bubbles are also good. I think you can source them online. I personally prefer the choc idea. I found some amazing favours website from the US when I was trying to put something together for my brother's wedding.
butterflylou 09-04-2007, 16:34 How about love heart sweets - you can order them with just married on the sweets and even have you name & date on the little packets!! I think these are fantastic!!
Frolikalki 14-04-2007, 14:34 Have bought chocolate eclairs wrapped in gold and silver foil for our favours, as no-one we know likes sugared almonds.
pippadoll 16-04-2007, 18:36 I am getting some chocs in a little box from the choc shop in Broomhill.
I was also thinking of making some biscuits. You can buy a heart shaped cookie cutter from the breast cancer awareness site. You can icing the cookies in your colour theme, or bake coloured cookies...
I might serve them with the coffee...
cosywolf 27-04-2007, 21:48 Favours, etc: For anyone looking for something a little different and special, and not too costly (for the most part), I got this catalogue through my door yesterday - wish it had been around when I got married, so I thought I'd share it with you lot. It's called Cox and Cox. Some lovely stuff.
It's got an email address, too: www.coxandcox.co.uk
Enjoy!
holidayhutch 05-05-2007, 22:34 I popped to the local cash and carry and picked up a box of 1000 Elizabeth shaw after dinner mints for £5. Bought some ivory embossed treasure chests popped 10 in each one ad tied with some ribbon to co-ordinate with teh flowers and table settings
happygirl78 26-05-2007, 17:49 we are having a pink theme so are getting mobile phone/bag charms that have a pink crystal on them for the ladies they are about a pound each on ebay :)
Dont know what to get for the men yet though???

SamnKids 29-05-2007, 21:07 HIya, we put lucky dip lottery tickets in an envelope & then put it on one of those little photo holders for everyone to keep too. We did only have 30 people at our wedding but at a pound a head we still found it cheaper & we all had great fun that night seeing if anyone won. Don't think anyone did but I haven't seen a few for a while so maybe? Try the website www.aquarterof.co.uk they have a website full of old fashion sweets etc, you might find something a bit different, they do fruit salads & black jacks etc.Good luck on the day
honeyb35 02-01-2008, 22:01 I've mentioned that I'm doing this before, but I've just bought a load of half price Christmas Crackers from the Asda, as I'm getting married at Christmas I'm going to use them as table decorations and wedding favours, they've all got nice silver type gifts in and I think they will make a difference from the usual sugared almonds! Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else wanted to do the same thing!
Just thought I'd let you know, home bargains have boxes of green and blacks mini truffle eggs wrapped in gold for £1.50 perfect for favours 25 in a box.
I bought some ivory top hats for my wedding favors.I am only using them for my male guests so I have 20 left boxed not opened. If anyone wants to swop for 20 favor boxes suitable for my female guests pm me.
linzi_13 01-11-2008, 09:10 Hi everyone. Been thinking about my wedding favours and was wondering what people have put in theirs?
I've had a couple of ideas.... 1 - filling little boxes/bags ith love hearts, 2 - buying all guests a lottery ticket in a nice bag. But my OH is not too keen on them! :help:
Don't really want to be spending a fortune on them, but want them to be nice. Any suggestions? Thanks :)
weenireeni 01-11-2008, 13:56 If you have a look on money saving expert there is a wedding section, you will find millions of ideas on there! I like the lottery ticket idea, but depends how many guest you are having, could be expensive! I think if i was to get married I would have ginger bread men with names on them to double as favours and place settings!
:)
honeyb35 01-11-2008, 16:38 the gingerbread men are a fab idea, some people also have cupcakes with names written on. Mines a christmas wedding so I bought a load of (nice) crackers and am using them. I think love hearts a good idea too, you can get special ones with your names written on but i guess they are more expensive.
looby lou 02-11-2008, 14:12 weenireeni is right there are so many different favours out there now, I think the most important factor is that it reflects on the bride and groom.
Some ideas: single flowers, napkins, handkerchiefs, scented bags (small organza ones), candles
By some coming together of time and space, i was reading this at the same time as i was uploading....

looby lou 03-11-2008, 15:07 Thats a great idea, making your own cookies! They also look fab!!

theyre nice, i would def rather have soemthing they could eat then and there as if you get something too specialist they will never use it - i.e personalised candle. but i guess each bride knows what their party would enjoy best. I just want to make sure when my time comes im not buying things just for the sake of it! Rather the money went on honeymoon :hihi:
I got married in August this year and we bought all the adults (75) a lottery ticket and put them in nice gold envelopes as gold was our theme colour and for the kids we got them a gift bag and filled it with colouring books, crayons, little toy for the boys, hair slides for the girls etc.
The last wedding I went to we all had small bottles of wine with the bride ad grooms name on them, but I would imagine they were expensive, its important to remember what they stand for they should be 5 and I think it represents Health,Wealth,Happiness, friendship and fertility, not sure if thats right but something like that,They are so easy to make cant think why people spend so much money on them.
LizG2008 17-11-2008, 15:27 Im sure this is going to make me sound awful but we are not even bothering (Unless you count the crackers, its Dec27th) Its just not important to us, we would rather spend the money on something else but there are so many lovely items out there a friend of mine recently had lots of little embroided items as she was from a mexican village where they specialise in certain designs, they were just lovely
I didn't bother having wedding favours at mine either. I really don't think anyone cared and its one less thing to organise and pay for.
Some friends of mine had a packet of seeds with their names on at theirs which was rather nice though.
feline01 23-03-2009, 18:21 Thanks to SF I now have the favour's for the ladies:)
Now I have the bigger problem of what to get for the fella's?:help:
I had thought about a bottled miniture:confused:
Does anyone know the best place to get these and any idea's on price.
Also, any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.
x
What about a lottery tickets
feline01 23-03-2009, 19:01 Thanks twinky, had thought about that, knowing my friends they will choose the lottery ticket favours and leave the girlie chocolate heart favour's for the boy's! :)
x
Holza1987 23-03-2009, 19:49 I've seen various websites suggesting scratch cards/ lottery tickets could be good. But i do all so think the miniture idea is great tooo.... x
linzi01uk 23-03-2009, 20:18 i looked at minitures and they worked out expensive, lottery tickets certainly cheaper plus u can buy the lottery ticket holders on ebay. we arnt having favours for the men, the last few weddings i been to they have just done them for woman
feline01 23-03-2009, 20:38 We could have discussed this when you were doing my hair linzi!!
See you soon. :)
x
We got our guests lottery tickets, went down well.
Have you tried the tuxedos in a variety of colours to suit your scheme? We do them for 1.25 each, filled and done for you or we can get the stuff you need if you would rather do it yourself.
Hi
I've looked at miniture alchol for men at my wedding went on a site called "Just a glass miniture alcoholic favors" i found absolut vodka, barcardi and gin for around £1.80 per bottle or there cheaper if your buying more than 12!!! i thought this was very resonable. the whisky and port is more expensive.
Hope this helps.
Lou
CherishMedia 23-09-2009, 12:43 We recently filmed a wedding where they had the black tuxedo favour boxes filled with chocolate footballs. I think you can get them from Confetti. They looked brilliant and looked like they went down a treat..... :)
Raychul69 24-03-2010, 16:07 Hey guys,
I need some help
I've been asked to come up with some ideas for my sister in law to be on what she could have as little keepsakes on the tables for guests.
She's already got favours sorted out but wanted something that all the guests could take away and keep. Something that could possibly be made to save on costs or quite cheap to buy. ITS A BIG WEDDING
She attended a wedding last year and they had little bookmarks with a love poem on so something a long these lines would be ideal.
Please help me :help::help::help::help:
 xx
lwb-wedding 24-03-2010, 17:24 How about little packets of seeds that guests could plant at home? When they flower they will be reminded of your sisters wedding.
rubydazzler 24-03-2010, 17:53 And they're only 19p a packet in Netto ... you could get Love-in-a-Mist or Hearts-ease, maybe print off a label with their names and date on it, to match the place-cards or wedding colours.
Do people really keep this sort of thing, or is it like a party bag that gets thrown in the bin as soon as the kids get home? Seems a bit of a waste of money that'd be better in their pocket than squandered on people who won't really care whether they have a keepsake of someone else's wedding? No wonder it cost so much to have a wedding these days. I'm trying to persuade my daughter to elope, or go abroad for her nuptials. I'm so mean aren't I? :D
weenireeni 24-03-2010, 20:35 i'm doing the seeds thing as its easy for the ladies to slip in handbags - when you get a large sized favour its often left on the table and you forget all about it!
thanks for the netto tip ruby!
rubydazzler 24-03-2010, 22:03 thanks for the netto tip ruby!I've bought loads of different sorts, virginian stock, candytuft, godetia etc. If they all come up, I'll have a beautiful garden :D
If you've never seen it Love-in-a-Mist is very pretty, lots of colours and its other name is Persian Jewels.
sarah1976 25-03-2010, 16:12 Seeds are a great idea! You could make a tag and attach it and put a few words on like, plant these seeds and watch our love grow!
I am going to make some ceramic hearts and hand paint the names of all guests on them for different place names. I am going to try and find somwhere who will fire and glaze them after and attach to the napkins with a co-ordinating ribbon.
owlsbabe79 25-03-2010, 16:22 seeds are a brilliant idea, im so glad i stumbled accross this thread now ;) im getting married this year, and purchased 100 baby blue lil organza bags, to tie in with my blue n white theme (i know the name says alot) i was going to get love heart sweets personalised, but i think the seed idea is more personal, and i think a trip to the netto is in order lol, so thank you Ruby, xx :D

The nice thing about Love in a Mist is that they have pretty ferny leaves, the flowers are a mix of colours from white through pale blue and pink to red and purple, the seed heads are big and squishy and they'll seed on and come up year after year. Ideal for a wedding favour, really.
The lucky recipients will never forget you or your wedding! Hope it goes well and you have a lovely, sunny day x
weenireeni 26-03-2010, 08:55 Another nice idea I have seen is seed paper, a seller on ebay sells lovely heart shaped seed papers, which are so cute!
LEE_JON_WS 27-04-2010, 09:09 Try www.weddshop.com have a look under various sections, they have lots of things:)
YUWedding 28-04-2010, 11:09 I agree with the seeds! Also the bookmark is a good idea. If you have a poem that means alot to you then that would be perfect to include.
Trotterette 15-07-2010, 17:19 I'd definitely like to give favours to all guests but am struggling with what?!
I'd like to give the blokes one thing and the gals something else.
I've been to weddings which have given small gifts in the way of chocolates or sweets, and one wedding I went to gave lottery tickets / scratch cards - all of which are nice ideas - but I was just trying to think of something different?!
What is everyone else doing for theirs? All suggestions welcome!!
Thank you!!

We were on quite a tight budget but wanted to do favours for our guests. I am quite aware though that unless edible most favours get left behind or binned a few weeks later. So we bought candly lollies in our colour scheme from funkyfaries.com for the ladies and for the gentlemen we have wrapped up those Polystyrene aroplanes you used to get in party bags. Thought might keep them entertained for a while and at less that 50p each, bargain!!
Trotterette 09-09-2010, 15:43 Still searching for ideas.....??
