I've just stumbled across possibly the cheapest web hosting ever

www.nearlyfreespeech.net

$1 / gb of bandwidth (not monthly - they take away as much as you use)

and $0.01/MB of webspace / month


so 100 mb a month and 1gb bandwidth usage (which is a hellofalot) = £2 / month (about a quid)

cheap as chips!

(I'm not affiliated in any way blah blah I just think this is too good not to tell people about )

it's not that good a deal :| I get 10Gb of bandwidth and 500mb of storage for $8 a month...

on that site it'd cost me like $15, like twice as much...

doesn't look that bad for people that don't need a lot of space or bandwidth... although their site design looks shocking

I get 1GB space and unlimited bandwith, unlimited subsites, unlimited emails, unlimited FTP accounts for 17£ a year ...

So your deal does seem to appealling.

There is no such thing as "unlimited", especially in the hosting industry.


HD's have limits (even using RAID technologies);).
Bandwidth is limited by the data centre/backbone/up-stream provider;).
emails are limited by HD space & bandwidth;).
FTP accounts, again, limited by Bandwidth/data transfer limits and HD space again;).

First, the plural of HD is HDs, and not HD's ....
And I have a limited storage space.
As for unlimited emails accounts it's obviously limited by my lifespan ... I can't create new accounts after I'm dead, so if you want to be pedantic, that's the only limit I have...
I have unlimited bandwith, meaning there is no capping of the amount of data users may retrieve of my website... I didn't suscribe to some panzie host that tells me that after 10G my site won't be accessible...

So I suggest ever so politely that you withdraw what you said and bare in mind that, as I previously said, I have:
get 1GB space and unlimited bandwith, unlimited subsites, unlimited emails, unlimited FTP accounts for 17£ a year ...

Not unlimited by what can be conceived, but unlimited by the fact they dont limit me to any of those features

The word they should be using is unmetered. If Google started redirecting to you I think you would find the limits!

Just out of curiosity how much of your unlimited bandwidth do you use? I have a site with 500 uniques a day (crap but about average for a personal site) and it uses less than a gig of bandwidth.

Bandwidth is the ammount of data transferable at any one time (which is limited)!


Data transfer often (incorrectly) refered to as bandwidth by some hosts is not the same as bandwidth.

All sites served through a single gateway?? And they said they had over 1,000 servers when they first launched. That makes 1,000 servers (each capable of holding, say 1,000 sites) = 1,000,000 websites piped through a single server. OK for a LAN (not with 1,000 severs connected to it), but for a webhost????

Unmetered is probably more accurate, although I've checked, and it does say unlimited. I get about 1000 hits a day, and with files as big as 50MB, so BW goes quickly.
I mean, really If I didn't have all that crap on download I wouldn't need as much BW, but I do...

sccsux, go dig a hole or sommut ... the BW at any one time is unmetered ... Deal-with-it-that's-how-it-is !
