Sheffield Community Transport have a door to door bus service (http://www.sheffieldct.co.uk/Pages/DAB.html)for the elderly and disabled.

I used to use it to take my ma-in-law (in her wheelchair) to Morrisons and Meadowhell every week. The service was excellent and the drivers very helpful.

The elderly person needs to be able to get themselves around the supermarket, or have an escort if they need help, but they don't to be able to get up the bus steps, because they all have lifts at the back.

They also have a City Ride Service (http://www.sheffieldct.co.uk/Pages/City%20Ride.htm), where you can book a minibus just for yourself and for a particular date and time. Of course, this works out a lot more expensive than the 50p shopping bus.

Is there a charge Dozy? and can an escort go along in the bus too?
Edited to add I looked on the link and see its 50p  I take my Mum to Morrisons Ecclesfield twice a week it costs a fortune for taxi's everywhere these days.

Yes, it's a brill service - you can end up with a fairly long journey if you're first on, 'cos they have to pick up everybody else. But they're a friendly bunch (well, the ones who get on the Firth Park route are) so it's not too bad.

It saved me so much effort, too, because ma-in-law could stay in her wheelchair, so there was none of the fuss of getting her in the taxi, folding up the chair, getting it in the boot, etc.

As well as the journeys listed on the site, they also do Saturday trips to the Peak District in the summer (well, I think it's them!) which make a nice change.

there's also Shopmobility Sheffield's brilliant scheme, as advertised in the Sticky at the top of the section, if you can get to Shopmobility Sheffield, you can hire a scoota and pootle around town at your leisure, shop, meet friends for a coffee, what you pretty much wish to do, really.
