Yesterday I was having trouble connecting to the internet....pages just kept timing out and could not be displayed!

Then the pages would multiply and I would have loads of open expired pages along my task bar flashing in orange...after closing them all eventually I could connect to internet but it kept disconnecting after 20 mins or so and was very slow!

I run Windows XP, Broadband connection and have AVG free, Spybot search and destroy, Spyware blaster and the XP firewall...after running these nothing showed up.

No problems with ISP so I was stumped...I used system restore and amazingly everything ok again...

But then....:( today it has done exactly the same...I have used system restore to restore to yet another earlier time and everything ok again...well for time being!!

I am no computer trouble shooter...so thought I would ask if anyone has a clue what this could be???

Thanks in anticipation...

make sure your anti virus is up to date and do a full scan...

well websites timing out doesnt sound like one. unless its stopping you getting your AV stuff updated, ive just come across one like that on a friends puter.

loads of open pages along the taskbar DOES sound like a virus (unless youve opened that many yourself)

but if all those AV / spyware apps havent found on then it looks like its not one.

you could try hijackthis and adaware too lol

I immediately updated my AVG free edition and run a full scan...nothing showed...the same on spybot search and destroy!

Just seems strange the moment I use system restore it is fine at least for a while anyway...

i've had similar occur, sometimes page timeouts can be contention even on broadband services. however bt are currently upgarding there systems & i suffer loss of connection or "unable to find server" errors. at least one half day per week at the moment.

I had something similar happening yesterday....it took an age for most web pages to load, or they would time-out. There was a time when I couldn't get on to SF even.

I just rebooted my pc, and everything seemed a lot better afterwards, although there were a couple of places which still took an age to open....but that happens quite often anyway.

thats mainly either your computer loses resources etc and when the internet connection gets a bit slow and bunged up......a good old reboot solves the problem in the first case :)
a bit of swearing and preying usually helps in the 2nd lol

do you use internet explorer?

i suggest running the beta of MS AntiSpyware and run Hijack This.

the last time i had a problem like that it was the "Agaobot virus"
aswell as timeouts and multiple pages opening. the virus was also shutting down my av software.
I had to do a full format and reinstall :(
