Just lately my lo does NOT want me to change his nappy. Sometimes he is fine but alot of the time he squirms, turns over, thrusts about - generally throwing a complete tantrum! :o

How do I sort this? Will this become a regular thing until he is out of nappies! :(

how old is he?

my 1 year old is the same, she completley squirms, wriggles and squeals.
The 2.5 year old I look after is far easier to change then she is, so I hope they get better with age. She has been like this ever since she could roll over. I find it easier to change her on my knee (when I am not minding!)

You will get use to it Im afraid. You will be changing nappies in seconds as they try and leg it across the room. Just pin him down and do it as quick as you can or just let him have time off without his nappy.

I use toys to distract my LO, usually something he can shake to make noise works just long enough to get the nappy on reasonably well!! or failing that the wipes packet (once got enough out)....

I also use toys. My little one was at his worst for this from about 7-9 months. He is 18 months now and he's easy to change and has been for ages now. Have everything ready before you get him on the mat although I guess you already do that. Like I used to have the top of the nappy cream, the nappy opened up and several wipes out of the packet before I started.

He is 6 months. I always have to have everything ready as I need to get the nappy straight into the sack as he tries to play with the soiled one! :gag:

He is ok until I lay him over the opened nappy then when I try and secure the tabs that is when the fun starts! Maybe with him beginning to crawl he would rather do that but it isn't much fun when he has a face like a beetroot and screaming his lungs out! :(

Hopefully he will be better as he gets older!

I let him have a wiggle without a nappy before bathtime. The other day he soiled his blanket ha ha!

Oh dear. Just keep trying cos I think they do improve when they realise that you aren't going to give up!

Oh my goodness.

Much to my shame I remember shouting at Scoop jr for the first time when he was about nine months old for the crime of wriggling about while having his nappy changed.

We used reusables that consisted of a seperate waterproof wrap, foldable pad and nappy liner. He got the hang of wriggling about and making the whole nappy seperate and unfold and I'd have to put it all back together, then he'd do it again. One day I got more and more angry and ended up shouting at him. I'll never forget the shock on his little face, he thought it was fun:(.

Anyway, I can't offer anything other than toys as some others have suggested, or Scoop jr used to love being sung to or spoken to with silly voices and faces (just don't shout!).

Good Luck!

it's a pity you can't get the changing mat sold with those straps attached similar to the changing mat at the baby changing room. i'm thinking of sewing a big belt with velcro to mat similar to those slimming waist wrap - it might keep baby attached to mat .

We always had this kind of fun when Jamie first became mobile (7 months), but I started consistently using the signs for 'nappy change', 'lay down' and 'clean' and things got manageable really quickly (about a week).

Jamie would be up and off, usually peeing on the carpet on the way, but now I say and sign 'lay down' (he doesn't do it, but I lay him down anyway), then I say and sign 'nappy change' and he will sign it back and will lay there until I tell him and sign that he is 'clean'. Then he gets up and goes back to what he was doing.

Sometimes toys are still required and we have the odd day where he just has to get back to what he was doing NOW and tries to run off with his bum hanging out, but generally anything that falls into a routine can be easily signed and they will understand it very quickly. Then they know what to expect and aren't trying to get away!

My daughter's the same way. I have to change her on my knees as well to get any progress. :gag:

You can actually. ;) Must get 1 (http://www.mustget1.com/new-cream-baby-nappy-diaper-changing-mat-with-safety-harness-p-75.html) sells them, as does Rimbalzo (http://www.rimbalzo.co.uk/NappyShop/Rabbitts/) and Safe Tots (http://www.safetots.co.uk/Safe-Baby-Changing-Mats/170-314.htm) (don't forget cashback through Quidco).
