my new toshiba laptop wont write cd's it says theres an erorr can anyone tell me why

OK, give us more information, how are you trying to burn cd's? what program? What error do you get? Does it read CD's OK??

when does it say there is an error ?
what is the text of the error message?
what program are you usuing to burn CD's, nero ? the burn to cd thing built in to windows ? something else ?
are the CD's you are trying to burn writeable ? have they been used before and you are trying to add information ?
will the information you are trying to burn fit on a CD ?
does your toshiba think it's trying to burn a DVD but you are using CD media ?
is the drive actually capable of burning CD's

there's a very long list of things that could be wrong, we need more information to narrow it down before we can suggest a solution

im not a nerd or someone that knows much about computers for this i am sorry i thought this was a forum where i could get help not sarcastic remarks. i have been on a forum set up by toshiba and there are many like me having same issuse with toshiba equium.
they are sending me drivers to sort the problem out.
esme, when i copied my cd to the media player i wanted to make a copy for my partner to take to work, i put the blank cd in and pressed i think burn and the error box came up. it now seems to be all equium laptops thanx anyway.
remind me not to come on here again for help!!!!:rant:

I have the same laptop, but havn`t had this problem.
Toshiba are usually pretty good at sorting stuff out for you though, I`d just get onto them.

If the drive worked at some time in the past then try going back in time with system restore. If this dors not work then you probably have a defective drive which will need replacing. The only way to test it is to replace it so you will need to use a laptop repairer http://www.trilogicuk.co.uk
