I'm doing it too!

Was excited; now am dead nervous as I've been running by time not distance, i.e. for 30 minutes. Yesterday I actually clocked 3 miles and ran that, and it took 36. I nearly fell over!!!

But some people walk it all, others run/walk and I believe some people even race, so - who cares?!

Good luck Shelley!! Anyone else?

Well, We have only managed 2 miles without stoping and nearly died! when we go out running we do 2 miles in 20 mins so about 30 mins sounds about right for 3 miles. Think we will be gentle jogging/stoping and starting.

Good luck also.

You'll be amazed just how much the buzz of the occasion gives you a lift. You'll easily get round, and you'll be floating on air for a day or two.

You might find it hard to walk and your toes might have gone black, but you'll still float on air!

Good luck!

CONGRATULATIONS to all of us that did it!!! How did you do, Shelley and Charlie?

I found it such an emotional occasion, with all the "in memory of" and "in celebration of" signs and photos on people's backs - and people running it with their kids, or for friends, or for themselves as survivors - my eyes were filling up at the start!!!!

RichK, you were right - it was such a buzz being surrounded by 5000 women and cheering supporters - I know it lifted my performance, not that it was about that but I ran the whole 5k without a walk break for the first time ever!!!

Jon - it's a women-only 5k national race event in aid of Cancer Research. It was at the Don Valley Bowl this morning ;0)

Sheffield Fox - it's a women-only event because it's in aid of cancers that affect women, and because traditionally women were less likely to be found running in races than men - so it's women-only to encourage us and to have a supportive, co-operative atmosphere, rather than a competitive one. It's more about celebration and a lot of people walk it.

Cancer Research do men-only events too - think it's cycling rather than running because of the links with testicular cancer.

Anyway - YAY FOR US!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations to everyone who took part. I will be running the race for life in Huddersfield in June as there was no room at Sheffield. So I've got a bit longer to train. I can only manage about two miles at the moment without stopping, so wish me luck.
