In Japan they're going to be the equivalent of about £700 so they won't be cheap when they get here. Not exactly netbook prices.
They're actually quite similar to my 5 year old 12-inch Apple PowerBook, but without the aluminium casing...

12" laptops were around in the cretaceous period as I recall. Long before the word 'netbook' had been invented!
I thoroughly agree however they are the optimum size for laptops. Where portability and usability meet imo.
I had a latitude L400. I used it to death, quite literally.
they are far more usable than smaller, Eee PC equivlents.
i have just bought a second hand Dell x300 (http://www.dell.com/html/us/products/latitude/x300.html) on ebay. fed up of lugging my lovely, but combersome 15" HP around at uni
