My son bought HP computer today connected up and switched it on, computer made right sounds beeps etc but the screen just said no signal, tried other monitor and other cable but same things happened. Is this just a lemon or do you think someone from HP will be able to fix it over the phone?
beeps are usually a telltale of errors, e.g. loose ram, pci card, etc... However if you go in you'll probably negate your warranty, so yes ring up first (http://www.saynoto0870.com/), then if no joy, take it back (or get them round (do they still do that now?))

Yes, give them a call, or check out the HP support site.
The beep codes may diagnose a specific fault (such as faulty memory) so make a note of the beep duration (long or short) and number of beeps and pass this information to HP.

Hp take it straight back don't waste your time with tech support. Or you could spend all night on the phone only to be told to take it back.
tell me the number of beeps and i will tel you where teh fault lies

Doesn't appear to be a "beep-code" issue unless you have mistaken error code beeps for startup beeps. Have you made fully sure that the VGA/DVI cable is properly connected at each end? If so I doubt it can be fixed over the phone, probably best taking it back as it's very much still under warranty.

Son says it just beeps the once as far as he knows.
in which case its booking fine? could be a dodgy graphics card...

We checked connections switched monitor cables everything but nothing happened
Once when I moved flat (uni) I packed a working computer, someone else drove to the next flat and I remember going over a pothole. Set ol' Alice up and she just didn't smile, I opened her up and pushed everything snuggly in place and hey presto, the CRT beamed into life (i'd unplugged the internal speaker of course).
But in your case, i'd take it back and get them to do it...
Maybe worth checking that it hasn't got a separate graphics card as sometimes some mobos come with onboard graphics and sometimes if you plug into that port then you won't get any output.

Thanks for your help. Emailed HP and they confirmed there must be hardware fault. Comet have said bring it straight back and we will give you another one so hopefully problem solved.
