Hello people! I've been a student in sheffeld now for 2 years and so have found these forums quite useful for different matters. Finally I have registered with this vital topic needing your help.

Its the girlfriend's 21st in a couple of weeks. I'm planning on buying her some jewellery (any good shops?) and some other little presents of which i am open to suggestions for!

But the main reason I need your help is that I'd like to take her for a night in a good hotel in town. I'll have a car so the distance is not a factor, just want it to be a nice one. I'd thought about the Hilton on the quayside. Does anyone know how good this is? Or does anyone have any other suggestions as where to take her.

Many thanks.

Hinchy

Well its just... I... Er..... Sorry :( My budget isn't exactly massive. I want it to be something nice for her. We both live in Sheffield. I have exams all the way up to the day before. And a hotel is something different. Of course things like taking her to Paris are great ideas. But I don't think I can mortgage my room!

and how about sprinkeling the bed with 21 rose pettels. (make sure there no thorns)

Then 21 sweets from Thorntons.

in essency gut back on the jewelry and spend more on the day its self.

Jewelry will only end up in a box, where as her momoery will last in her mind.

Hinchy I really don't agree with the others, I think what you are planning is wonderful.

Jewellery wise try Beaverbrooks - expensive but worth every penny.

Hotel NOT the Hilton, me and my boyfriend went there for dinner once and it was awful. Plus I have stayed in their hotels before and they really aren't all that special. I think somewhere in the countryside would be lovely, where you can get away from it all and have a romantic evening. I don't know anywhere but I'm sure there are places on the internet, try looking under hotels in the Peak District or something.

Good luck! :)

Paris like any other city what you pay for is what you get. But asl ong is its around about the center you will be fine, good Puplic transport and all.

Thanks Lucy :) I was feeling worried about my plans.

My home is in the Peak District so it might be same old same old for her.

Paris is still interesting.

Also found a place in the lake district. Might look around that area.

Oh right yeah I'd avoid the Peak District then. I think the Lake District would be lovely :)

If you can afford Paris then that would be great but don't feel you have to go mad. Save that for when you propose!! ;)

Spa is GOOD! Book her a few treatments - while she is doing that do the sprinkly thing with the petals and put a bottle of champers on ice and voila!

Jewellery would be good as well - maybe just a pair of earrings - don't blow the bank

All in all a good time had by all

Good luck!

Give us a few more details about your GF - her likes and dislikes so that we can tailor our ideas and suggestions. What are her hobbies for example?

I think anyone who really does their homework can provide an extra special treat without just throwing money at it (I'm not saying that's what you are doing) it really is the thought that counts.

Is there anything she's always wanted to do?

Apart from doing something special, I always like to buy a plant/tree/shrub for my garden so that i've got a lasting reminder. For example, my daughter got me a flowering cherry tree and every year the blossom is brilliant and I always remember she got me it for Mothers Day. If you're renting somewhere then you'll need something that you can move with you - a japanese azalea in a tub for example.

I'll have a think and check a few sites out and get back to you.

LMAO PoStMaN I almost choked on my drink reading that :D

Hinchy I think the hotel in the Peak District looks fab and I like PoStMaN's idea about the 21 rose petals and chocolates. It is the wee touches like that that will be more special to her than any gift. I hope it all goes well and she appreciates your efforts :)

random pub in town (during happy hour of course)...and then a kebab on the way home..

Leave them wanting more, that's what I say ;)

Or failing that....for something impressive and really not expensive, fly to Prague and take a ride down the Danube to Bratislava....dead cheap and not full of stag and hen weekends like Prague :)

Dont go to the Hilton in town, whatever you do. You can get somewhere much nicer and probably cheaper.

Enjoy :)

If you're still going for jewellery ( I got a gorgeous necklace for my 21st which I tend to wear on special occasioans) then I recommend Ortak in Meadowhall.
None of their stuff is 'standard', it's gorgeous, unusual and generally fairly priced for what it is.
Jewellery is a lasting reminder and a little traditional.
I'm also liking the other thoughts like 21 chocolates and 21 rose petals etc.
A slight aside, a previous partner of mine after a meal and drinks out, took me to a hotel in Sheffield and had a bottle of champagne and a new gorgeous Gossard undies set laid out on the bed plus spare clothes for the next day, my make-up bag, toothbrush etc (because I had no idea about the plan). Very memorable!

Don't stay at the Hilton its terrible. Used to work there & at a cost of £150 quid for 1 night you will get a box standard room no better than the Ibis & the food is totally overpriced.

Can recommend the royal vic opposite, you can book a suite for the night which comes with it's own private dinning room, jacuzzi & grand piano. I imagine its very costly but proberbly cheaper than Paris!

To be honest I think Paris is abit of a cop out anyway, it doesn't take much any imagination to book a plane ticket to Paris. I am sure your girlfriend would appreciate you doing something special that means something to her.

For my 21st, my boyfriend (now hubby) sneaked out of bed whilst I was asleep went to the shops & bought bacon, eggs, champagne, flowers etc & set the patio area oustide really romantic with baloons, music, pressies etc. He then woke me up, blindfolded me and led me outside! - It was fantastic!. We were in spain so the 90% degree weather proberbly added to the romance but it's just an idea!

Let us know what you come up with!

I'm a "Girlfriend" of almost 3 years and I've got every intention of still being the girlfriend in another 3 years time (When I'm 21...) So already I've started hinting at what I'd like to do lol! (My Bf needs advance warning lol)

I think the main thing with an 18th/21st, is that it has to be individual and well thought out. For my BF's 21st, I helped him to fulfill his dream of flying an aeroplane. I booked him a lesson at Sheffield Airport and kept it secret... He didn't even know what was happening even though we were parked up at Sheffield airport lol! We then had proper champers and birthday cake (shame I didn't get any, I was driving and I hate cake!) and then we ate out at Whitley Hall Hotel, which is our favourite restaurant.... I would've liked us to stay the night there, but I couldn't afford it, I'd already spent about 5 weeks wages on the flying lesson, dinner and his gift, champers etc...

I, on the other hand, tend to go for memories, rather than jewellery. Like previously suggested, jewellery goes in a box, memories stay with you forever. For my 21st, from a female's perspective, something huuuge like a trip away to another country (even if its just for 1-2 nights) and for that I would swoon forever lol! I've got my sights set on Florida, but ya know, it ain't gonna happen lol
