Rich 20-05-2005, 19:04 Originally posted by EdEd ive got them starting next week...any advice? Do LOADS of revision.. Stay up all night revising if you have to, and sleep during break times at School. saxon51 20-05-2005, 19:05 Laxative, Prozac and optimism. Not necessarily in that order! Best of luck EdEd:thumbsup: savbaby 20-05-2005, 19:11 Originally posted by EdEd ive got them starting next week...any advice? i wouldnt advise overloading on revision cos if you dont know it by now you wont! just relax stay calm and read all the questions through properly.. good luck:thumbsup:  FairyNormal 20-05-2005, 22:09 My daughter finished today (boy do I feel old now!). She is going into school as normal next week and after half term as the teachers are running revision classes in the lessons they should have been having. Take advantage of these if your school runs them. Another simple thing, but I feel is essential, is to make sure you have a good breakfast and drink plenty of water on the morning of an exam. Being de-hydrated and having a rumbling belly really won't do you any favours. Try to relax and just do your best. No-one can expect any more than that from you. Good luck!  pdrnsf 21-05-2005, 07:29 When i did mine, the only thing that made stuff sink in was to write stuff out over and over and over again! Still doing it 4 years later at uni! I also used to stick little cards up with the main points around the house, e.g back of bathroom door, landing mirror, etc. It sounds odd maybe but worker wonders for me! I got 1 A, 3B's and 6 C's! *Twinkle* 21-05-2005, 08:38 I made little map-like pages of info and divided them into sections using arrows... EG: Christian beliefs about abortion.. / / / / / / blah blah blah they also think blah blah blah / / however blah blah blah You get the drift? I then went on to memorise it, then recite it back and be tested on it.... I maaged to get it word perfect and I had about 2 full a4 sheets of this for GCSE RE! My Mum was the one who endured it all and I reckon she too would have got an A on the exam like me! lol EdEd 21-05-2005, 09:30 hey thanks for the posts everyone its been really helpful, any more tips anyone? Craigy 21-05-2005, 10:44 try the bitesize website, i did nearly all my revision on there and I came out with all A,Bs, and Cs. There was also stuff on there that i hadn't been taught that came up in the exams. Its not all reading too, there are questions and tests to help you. Put your social life in a box for the moment and dont go out at nights (not even just the 1s) Good luck with the exams i know a few ppl who are doing them too and they are just as worried as I was. cobaltblue 21-05-2005, 11:21 The main thing is try not to worry. My son got so worked up last year he used to go to sleep listening to relaxation tapes. Thankfully he is a lot calmer this year. Don't worry if in the exam you come up against a question that draws a blank with you. Just move on and go back to it later. Make sure you get enough sleep the night before and your up and organised in plenty of time. All you can is your best  Best of luck EdEd :) Pilon 21-05-2005, 14:31 People tell you to have a sensible revision timetable and not to cram everything in at the last minute. Naturally, this is very sound advice, and you must also remember to devote plenty of time to relaxation and leisure. In my experience, it is best to revise in one hour chunks, and then stop and go and do something you enjoy. Prepare well in advance and you are less likely to panic, but there is nothing wrong with lots of last minute revision aswell PROVIDING you have revised beforehand. Also, I found sometimes revising in groups helped - that way you can test each other by taking it in turns to ask questions. Good luck! Lotti 21-05-2005, 15:41 I'm revising for A levels starting next week! I haven't read all posts because I'm revising so sorry if I repeat myself... DO NOT DO AS AJ SAID! LOL You will do far worse if you've crammed it all and fall asleep in the exam, get early nights each night from now, do 20 minutes of revision, then a break just walk around, play a musical intrument if you do, whatever, for 5-10 minutes then go back to revision for 20 minutes etc etc. Try and get 2 hours of each subject a day (obviously I know you have like ten subjects or something so you don't have to do each subject every day) go through subjects methodically which exams you have first. Do's and Don'ts: Do - sit in a quiet room with no distractions clear your desk of everything but the work you're doing manage your folders annotate your books (if you're allowed, different subjects have different rules) PRACTICE PAPERS! These can be so helpful do past papers/practice exams. Don't - watch tv listen to music with lyrics, but you can listen to classical/jazz (you may not like it but it's proven to improve brain power!) eat crap - some people find it helps and if you're just thinking about that all the time then do, but try not to as additives in sweets/chocolate etc, actually stop u concentrating revise if you're not thinking about it fully. you won't enjoy it (and yes you can enjoy revision!) and you won't take it in AND DO RELAX AND DON'T STRESS!!!!! Good luck! igm1 21-05-2005, 16:51 ENJOY IT! I'm doing my final year of A-levels Awful stuff  rosie 21-05-2005, 17:26 Good Luck to everyone taking exams in the next couple of months, especially to my son, and I will be thinking of you all when I sit mine, two weeks on wednesday. Jaynos 22-05-2005, 18:00 There's no point in cramming, you probably wont be able to take everything in. Do it all in blocks of half an hour or so and have a break. I've always found that putting post it notes everywhere helps especially for science equations! Have a good sleep before the exam! Finally, A HUGE GOOD LUCK to everyone taking exams at the mo! j x EdEd 23-05-2005, 13:23 thanks again for all the pointers. just like to second that gd luck to everyone with their exams SatanInHeels 24-05-2005, 07:18 just do ya best!! the only this i revised for i got a D in which was my worst grade so i wouldnt advise too much of tht!! best of luck to ya!! ive got my AS exams this week... looking forward to resitting them next year of corse! franc1987 24-05-2005, 08:36 I sat my GCSEs last summer, with regards to revision i'd say use the study leave (if you get any) and use it well as as AS level we dont seem to get any which is a pain in the **** cos I am really needing it right now! Dont do what i am doing now, my exams start tomorrow (oh god) and i still havent started revision. Good luck, Enjoy the long summer break, work and stress free! Perfect! As regards to revision techniques i tend to write it out, read it, write it out, read it. I also pin things around the house and it drives everyone mad! If you are taking a language (altho i think the language exams have already been ?!) I advise to use a tape recorder for the speaking exam because i dont know how i would have got through my french oral exam without it!! vikki 24-05-2005, 08:56 Just do you best and dont overwhelme yourself ! Our_heritage 25-05-2005, 15:08 I have just done my year 9 SATs, yet already they are starting us off on coursework for 2 years time, the tutors put far too much pressure on pupil, it is not at all right and just stresses kids out more nearer the time instead of keeping them relaxing inwhich case they would find it easier to consentrate and possibly get a better grade. SatanInHeels 25-05-2005, 19:30 to be honest... if i could go back in time to when i was in the same situation Our_heritage, i think i would get the corsework over and done with when they give it to you instead of doing as i did and thinking that it would be ok as we had loads of time and having to do it ALL in like a week!! |
