I've bought seed sprouters from the Wicker health food shop on Surrey St and mung bean and lentils from Sainsburys. Is there anywhere that offers a greater range than Sainsburys without paying health food shop prices?
If there's a market stall where is it and on what days?

Thanks.

Greens Fruit & Veg shop Manchester Road in Stocksbridge have a fantastic selection of sprouting beans etc., for salads - this is the only place I have seen them. The radish spouting shoots are really peppery and are great in a salad.

There's something sprouting in the back of our fridge, you can buy that if you like...!

Only kidding, it's not for sale!

Have you had a look on this web site - not sure what the prices are like compared to buying them from a shop though...

You can get them at the greengrocers by Oxfam in Broomhill and also at the health food shop next door.

The greengrocers only buys them on a Tuesday so you have to go early in the week to get some, but then again, if people swarm in to ask for some he might get them more often.

If you're prepared to spend over £25 (minimum order) on healthy foods then Sheffield's wholefood hypermarket Lembas is first left off Valley Rd, Heeley. They have everything you can sprout in either organic or non-organic varieties at wholesale prices.

I like sprouted chickpeas, puy lentils, alfalfa, sunflower seeds and wheat amongst others. Sometimes I mix em all together before sprouting.

Rice, linseed, millet don't work tho.

you to be careful where you buy your seeds etc from, there's nothing worse than biting on an unsprouted rock hard mung bean! I'd always buy organic with a long sell buy date for that reason. I think green lentils are the easiest to sprout - just soak overnight (they become edible once they're soaked even if they haven't started sprouting yet). Try them after a couple of days as a salad with avocado and sweetcorn

I bought several packets of Biosnacky sprouting seeds from Harvestyme in Hillsborough, and organisc alfafa Beanies and a small pack lasts ages, and I have sprouter jar on the go most of the time.

had some problems sprouting broccoli seeds, as they seem to clump and go soggy. But mix them with a sprinkle of alfafa and they sprout fine.
