i have a 10 week old pup, and when we first got him we had a few mishaps on the floor then the rest on puppy pads, on monday it started, he will do one wee on the pads, then the rest of the floor or on the settee, he has started doing his number 2s on the settee, he goes all nite without a wee, when i get up with him in the morning i place him on the pads, he stays on for about 2 mins then gets off and does it on the floor, i tell him firmly no, and i praise him when he does it on the pads and give a treat.
any advice

It's basically keep doing what you are doing and perseverance i think.
At 10 weeks there is still a way to go as he is still learning and will get the hang of it eventually. You must make sure that you are cleaning the area with either bio washing powder or a pet odour spray as he is going by scent and will poo/wee where he thinks he should (which is in the last place he did it.) You are doing things right but you must keep putting him on the pads, everytime he gets off put him back again with lots of praise for staying there and doing the business. It make take ten attempts each time, but he needs to know what is required of him.
Good luck, pups are hard work arnt they.:hihi:
Seconding Gemima's advice - presuming it's not leather and is colourfast - you should certainly clean the sofa with bio washing powder / pet odour spray or, even better, hire a good wet cleaner and some cleaning fluid and give the whole thing a good going over (I got one from Killis for ~£30 when our dog did much the same thing on our new mattress - and they give you a whole spray gun of odour destroyer that you can keep and use after). If you don't thoroughly clean the areas you don't want the puppy urinating on, he'll just return there again and again.
