Yes. In my opinion there are houses there ;)

If you use the 'search site' facility and stick 'Beighton' in, it'll spit out a few other threads asking just that question

Actually, I've just realised who you are - you'll hate Beighton. It hosts Pedigree ringcraft classes. Place is full of 'em on a Wednesday.

See you outside with your placard? :D

If everyone stopped breeding for a couple of years (dogs I'm talking about), and started purchasing rescue dogs instead, then the rate of rescue dogs would go down and we would all live happily ever after!!

At the end of the day, a dog is a great companion whether it comes with a fancy name and certificate or not !!

Good call - and the same goes for cats as well. Those who are more worried about what breed their pet is tend to be more bothered about using their animal as a status symbol rather than being loving and caring owners. Status symbols are fine if you're so inclined, but they should be restricted to inanimate objects and not living creatures.

Not all pedigrees have a 'fancy name', and the certificate is neither here nor there.

I have spent a great deal of time and effort researching breed characteristics and meeting breeders of my chosen breed before finally making a decision to purchase.

I have spent the past 4 years training my 'pup' to behave in a fashion acceptable to the non-dog owners we regularly visit, and the hotels we stay in.

It would have been very irresponsible of me to turn up at a rescue centre and walk out with something cute and fluffy with a questionable temperament, unknown final size and who knows what psychological problems.

It takes a certain type of person to be able to dedicate their time to the re-homing of a dog. Not everybody is up to the job - which is why the rescue centres are very particular who they allow to take their reisdents home.

If I were having a re-home dog (and I am considering it) it would be another beagle from the same breeder, as she takes her own dogs back if family circumstances change.

Yes, I'm sure anybody in a one bedroom flat with a Yorkshire Terrier wouldn't have minded if it turned out to be an Akita cross

What?? Sorry that's over my head since I don't know anything about breeds of dogs. Your point is lost on me. My point stands.

By your own admission - it doesn't

An yorkshire terrier is the size of a rabbit. An Akita is as tall as a dining table. Huge difference. Not interchangeable.

Yes I can understand choosing a dog according to size for reasons of practicality. I can't understand people who USE animals as status symbols. Maybe this is ever so slightly off topic though. :D

Yes but so are cross breeds. Most people will know what I'm saying but if you want to play obnoxious then perhaps start a new thread for the topic?

As for a reply to the original post about Beighton! I have lived there for 2 years and really like it. It has its better and worst parts as all aready but is generally good.

It is well served for public transport into Sheffield while also being handy for the M1. Crystal peaks and retail Parks are nearby for good shopping, but the village itself also has a some good services and a village feel. There is also advantage of restaurants without having to go into town - Amraj and Damons and few pubs that do meals.

Also there is the Rother Valley which if you have dogs is good for walking.

Hope that helps
