I'm pretty sure they can - we went walking in Castleton the other weekend, got heavily rained on, so decided to get the bus back to base! Our little doggy friend came too with no mention of any probs from the bus driver.

We sometimes used to take a dog on the bus in sheffield. You have to pay for them (think it's a child fare) and they aren't allowed to sit on the seats ...

Once my daughter and friends took one of the dogs out and decided they were too tired to walk back as well, so got a bus ... the dog "insisted" on getting up to look out of the window and they were unable to control her ... so took off their jackets and put them on the seat so she wouldn't make a mess.
When an elderly passenger remonstrated with them about it, my daughter apparently said "She's paid her fare, why can't she have a seat?" and nothing more was said.

I was cross with her when she told me but I had to have a little giggle about it later. Just the thought of a border collie getting on and asking for a "half to Woodseats, please" .

I've taken Fergus on buses before - they usually charge 25p but if we get a driver who likes dogs he sometimes gets a free ride!

We took our two on the bus the other day. Was planning on walking back from Ecclesfield to Hillsborough but it was pouring it down so got the bus instead. For a change the bus driver was really nice and drove carefully and took his time when he pulled up at the bus stop when we got off. The dogs were having a hard time keeping stood up because it was wet and slippy, being greyhounds we couldn't put them on our knees!

Dogs cant go on trams though :(
other than, of course, blind dogs
that is dogs with blind people,
not dogs which are blind
