View Full Version : Bikini wax,can anyone reccomend a salon?
I'm thinking about braving a leg and bikini wax,I might even dare a brazillian! In time for summer holidays.I've wondered about doing this before, but as yet haven't plucked up the courage(too shy!And scared of the pain!) rediculous considering I've had three homebirths, with no pain relief!
Anyway,I have never been in ,or used a beauty salon before,so I have know idea what to expect(do you have to get your knickers off?!!) or how much it should cost? How long does it take?
Can anyone reccomend where I should go(or not go for that matter).I've heard may horror stories, are they usaully due to the product used, the beauticians ability,or your own skin type?
I would prefer to go somewhere in town,Ecclsall,Millhosues or Hunters Bar areas, but if it's reccomended I would consider other areas.
I would like to chose somewhere where I will be made to feel comfortable, with a kind friendly beautician,I don't want to walk in and be made to feel like a complete freak!
Any advise would be very useful. Please pm me if you don't want to share your personal experiences with the whole world!
There's a couple of threads already, Peakma. Try a 'search site'. If you're struggling, I'll look for you
Thanks Strix, I did look ,but they seemed a bit out of date.I presume new Salons open quite often.
I was sure there was one done since march
Anyway. I've tried sugaring at home, and had a wax done once. The fact that your skin is cold by the time you get to a salon makes the hair removal harder and more painful than if you do it straight after a bath.
I have also used an epilady, but that takes guts
A couple of Neurofen half an hour before helps
The older you are when you first start ripping hair out, the more problems you are likely to have with pain and ingrowing hairs (but ask advice about minimising this)
The first time is absolute hell, but after that, there are less hairs in the re-growth (unless you leave it too long!) so it gets easier
Sorry to bump this up, but I can't believe sheffield doesn't have one beautician worth recommending. Please can anyone point me in the right direction?
Contact Janet at Inner Health & Beauty, Hutcliffe Wood Road, 2353232.
She is the best when it comes to waxing. She also does numerous other beauty treatments. She is really friendly and very professional.:) :)
Henrietta 20-05-2005, 22:37 I don't know to be honest, I'd much rather deal with my bikini line myself thank you
Surely most waxing salons offer bikini waxes too - why not ring them and ask your questions, see what responses you get and how comfortable you feel as a result of them..? I'm sure they have been asked if you leave your keks on or not before. But I would imagine you get to wear a small pair of smalls. ;)
A full leg is around £15, with a bikini on top probably around £20 these days. Time, around twenty minutes or less for the full leg.
Yes it hurts - but the thing is that its an intense pain which lasts literally only a second. So if you're in the homebirth club too you've nothing to worry about
P.s, anyone who does home waxes - I have just used a home made recipe of sugar, honey and lemon juice, and I have to say it's done the best job ever - even when I've paid to have waxes done at a salon. Google 'sugaring recipe' for further info! It must have cost around 30p to make enough for a full leg and bikini wax. Compare that to a salon fee or the cost of 'Veet' and the rest in Boots etc!
epilady is the easiest I think. It is pretty slow and hurts loads for the first few times, but after that the hairs seems to pull out really easy.
PhilMurray 21-05-2005, 06:36 come to my house i'll have a good try a doing it!
pussycat 21-05-2005, 09:45 Try Spa 1877 in the old Glossop Road baths (www.spa1877.com) . They are a bit pricey, but they make you feel really relaxed and are very good. I've not had any waxing done there, but I've had lots of other things done and it's excellent.
I believe that if you still have your knickers on then you're not getting a proper "Brazilian", but that may be urban myth!
Try The Works up Crookes, it's my Cousin's own shop, so mention me and you might get mate's rates ;)
It's just before the Grindstone pub, near the Post Office.
