I have often wondered in recent years whatever happened to Ethel/Edith Johnstone, who originated from Meadow Street and once wrote a slim volume of childhood memories of that area in the 1920s. She married Joe Johnstone, who was the son of Bob Johnstone (a distant relation of mine), of Danville Street, and in later years --certainly during their retirement--they lived on Low Edges. I believe she had a sister called Nora, who married Stan Knowles and lived on Shiregreen.
I visited the Johnstones at their Low Edges home some ten or more years ago, and we reminisced about the Danville Street era; but then I lost touch, and when I tried to contact them a few years back it appeared they had left. I was told they may have moved into a home, but have never been able to get this confirmed.
