Hello all. I've recently moved to Doncaster from northwest America, and I am trying to learn where the best and/or most interesting independent cinemas are in the areas around me. To get a little idea of what interests me, here is my favourite cinema from back home: bijou-cinemas.com

Also, am I correct in my understanding that "second run" cinemas are just not something I'm going to find in England? If so, any insights on why this is? My fiance and I have been discussing and researching the idea of opening a small indie cinema with overhead mostly covered by second run films, and any info would be helpful.

Lastly, what's the story on DVD rental shops over here? Are they considered outmoded? I've only seen 2 on my adventures between Donny and Sheffield. While the convenience of home delivery is great, there's nothing like the blind, spur-of-the-moment, WTF-is-that-cover rental, and I miss "shopping" for the evening's entertainment.

Oh, and I apologise for "The House Bunny."

we habe The Showroom in Sheffield which is an Indie cinema but shows what I assume you mean by "second run" films. showroom.org.

Lovefilm is a delivery service similar to Netflix. Its taken over and manopolised the market.

As for actually renting you;re generally stuck with Blockbuster or you'll find that quite a few general stores rent as well.
