View Full Version : What are your denial films?
daveydude 22-10-2008, 03:35 Do you have any films you're just not bothered about seeing, to the point that you consciously avoid seeing them? I'm not talking about stuff like Daddy Day Care or Too Fast Too Furious that you know will just be bad, I'm talking films that are widely regarded as being pretty good that any film fan should probably have seen.
Mine are:
Titanic
Trainspotting
Top Gun
My friends hassle me at every opportunity about my deliberately avoiding "Kill Bill," despite (and because of) my being a huge Tarantino fan.

I was the same about Kill Bill but someone bought me the DVD's and it turned out to be brilliant.
As for films I avoid.....any of the three recent Star Wars movies :)
The OP said "widely regarded as being pretty good that any film fan should probably have seen." The SW prequels are terrible, and not highly regarded by most Wars fans, so you have to think of something else. ;-)
LitleMermaid 23-10-2008, 14:18 James Bond. Never seen one, never want to! I'm not even saying I'd hate them, I just have zero interest in ever watching one.
Saw films, Shrek films and most Disney Pixar films. Saw is nothing but blood and guts, the concept was pretty dull in the first one, after that it became even more worn out. But of course people love to see the ridiculous gore. Shrek films are so bland and I hate them ripping off all the classic old fairy take Disneys. I don't really understand the appeal of adults watching kids films, unless it's something you saw as a kid.
I have never seen any of the Godfather films, or the Searchers, or Dirty Dancing, or Grease.

But you would love Grease and Dirty Dancing!

I can just see him in a leather jacket and a quiff can't you?;)

Ooh, yes :) (fake leather, of course).

Of course, being a veggie and everything, there's not a chance in hell of getting me into a leather jacket!
Maybe we should have a film fancy dress meet:D

Yes! Actually, the B-movies night that I've just posted about in a new thread is fancy dress. But we should have a meet too.
ekke_287 06-11-2008, 17:05 I try to avoid watching The Full Monty, I have seen it but I can't stand it and the hype that it had at the time.
James Bond. Never seen one, never want to! I'm not even saying I'd hate them, I just have zero interest in ever watching one.
My girlfriend was also completely indifferent to Bond, but was very impressed with Casino Royale [the recent one BTW].

Well I know my OH wants to see the latest one, blah blah of Solace lol, really badly...do you think I should go with him to see it then?
I've not seen QoS yet so cannot advise, but Casino Royale was worth seeing just for the stunning opening sequence. Though far better on the big screen than on TV.
Bond films always look a bit naff on tv.

For years I avoided watching any of the Harry Potter films. Every time a new one came out workmates would talk about it and couldn't understand why I hadn't seen them.
I gave in last year and now love all of them.
But I still haven't seen any of the Godfather films and I doubt I ever will.
Titanc
Saw (all of them)
Blair Witch
High School Musical (all of them)
Sex and the City
most of the films Mrs Typs loves :hihi:
James Bond. Never seen one, never want to! I'm not even saying I'd hate them, I just have zero interest in ever watching one.
Don't knock them till you've tried them LM - fabulous! Bank Holiday isn't Bank Holiday without a bit of Bond
TylerXIII 02-03-2009, 12:01 :huh:E.T
Star Wars
and King Kong
media_savage 24-03-2009, 01:12 don't really know/care how well thought of they are, but i have conciously avoided all the harry potter films as i have the books; i can't really figure out the reason why, just one of those things you instinctively take a dislike to. it is getting tricky at christmas though, there are potter films all over the place then!
sheffseller 10-04-2010, 15:44 I deliberately avoid The Italian Job, not sure why.... I'm sure it's a great film as Michael Cain is a great actor, but something just puts me off.... I must force myself to watch it sometime.
Waltheof 02-05-2010, 18:20 I've gone off musicals, and I have never seen The Sound of Music and don't want to!! I have avoided the remake of King Kong as I felt that the original one made the central point adequately, while the remake (so far as I saw the hype) was just full of special effects with the monster going on rampage ad nauseam.
Incidentally, I have heard that when the (original) film was released in Scandinavia, the word for "king" in Norwegian, Swedish and Danish is "kong", so the title was changed to Kong King. Someone tell me if this is just a myth!
vwkittie 04-05-2010, 12:46 Braveheart! Just can't stand the idea of it for some reason!
sjred2007 02-08-2010, 18:13 Schindler's List........ I've never recovered from the trauma of Sophie's Choice.
xshotgunlove 26-08-2010, 03:22 Jaws - not interested.
Morris1593 02-03-2011, 18:39 Yet to see Inception even though my mum rented it the other day and i was invited to the cinema to see it, can't face 3 hours of one film!! Also Kings Speech, been invited to that by a few people and just keep putting it off, not sure why I'm an historian as well as a film geek it just doesn't appeal to me :/
