Has anyone seen a film called "Deep Core"? It's basically a no-budget copy of "The Core".

Anyway, Deep Core is probably my favourite of the two because it's just sooo bad. So many awesome moments, including long shots of what are meant to be terrifying apocalyptic scenes of utter devastation which look more like someone having a bonfire on a hill, scary not-at-all-racist-stereotype Chinese baddies, a classical music fan who listens to MIDI versions of the classics I presume because the producers couldn't afford the licensed recordings - the list goes on. It's my hot tip of the week!

I saw Deep Core on TV ages ago & had to see it again so rented it off Blockbuster and the disc was scratched, then tried to record it when it came on TV again and my Sky box went gaga. Someone doesn't want me to own this film.

Deep Core is not a copy of The Core - it was made a few years prior to The Core being made (Deep Core was 2000, The Core was 2003), which means the reverse is true. Deep Core was a TV movie (and it shows), but as you point out has that watchable factor because of how bad it looks.

Similarities between Deep Core and the Core are not only in the basic plot (earth's core stopped spinning, need to drill down and detonate explosives to jump start it), but even the detail of the story is the same (including a drop into a crystal cavern which begins to fill with lava, killing one of the team off).

It amused me watching The Core on DVD and the special features that the director of The Core actually has the balls to claim that he just 'Came up with the concept one night and thought it was a good idea as no-one's ever done something like it before!' Yeah, sure, he got the idea late one night because he was probably watching Sci-Fi channel or something :)

Checking on the IMDB reveals no links between the 2 films (such as writers, producers, studio, etc).

To correct just one thing; "Deep Core" was not a made-for-TV movie, but rather a direct-to-video release.

Although, according to IMDB, it did get a big screen premiere in South Korea!

And Terry Farrell is gorgeous.

Haha, the fact Deep Core came first makes it even better!

I love that film company who makes ripoffs of existing films - Transmorphers, Snakes on a Train etc... Their films are unwatchably bad but it amuses me that someone goes to the time & effort (not a lot of time & effort, granted) to make them.
