i am buying a laptop and the one i have seen which i like is a dvd-rw but it does not mentions anything about cd-rw... does the dvd one work with cd's too?? i need a cd one for my photos and things.. anyone got any advice for me as i am useless with thses things:confused: :confused:

A Dvd RW will burn CD's aswell :)

thanks:D its just there are some that say dvd-rw/cd-rw combo and i was very confused:confused: :confused:

dvd drives all play cds aswell as dvds these days

dvd- and dvd+ are different formats, most things play -, not many play + i bought this dvd drive cos it does and i had a dvd off somebody that was a +

dvd r means a recordable dvd ie:- once only
dvd rw means a rewritable dvd ie:- can write and erase write/erase etc

the same goes for cdr/rws

most puters these days only have one drive that can access everything (saves money)
if you want to copy straight from cd to cd you need two tho.....you can still copy them with 1 but you have to do what i do and copy to hard drive first.

yeah understand it now, it was the place i buying it from that confused me, they had ones with dvds or cd or combos and i was bit like eh?? lol,.. thanks for the hlep guys:thumbsup: :thumbsup:

If it's a "combo" it will Read DVD and CD, but only write CD.

thanks, i only want it to write cds anyway,, its just its advertised as a dvd writer no mention of cd and since i am thick as owt when it comes to computers thought i would ask:D
