Hello, I found your wonderful forum while searching for a simple sock pattern. I am pleased to find that you take members from outside the Sheffield area. I am in Lincolnshire but so close to Norfolk and Cambridge that just down the road you can almost hop from one county to the other two.

I am planning on making some bed socks (my first sock attempt) for my sister for christmas and wanted just a plain stocking stitch pattern... wow... what beautiful socks you all make... and just as soon as the bed socks and scarf (for other sister) are done I will be making myself some socks. I cant wait.

I did notice in one thread ... for the wonderful blanket made in diamonds with wool remanents that you talk of sewing in ends as being a problem. I always knit my ends in as I go if they are not to be used for sewing up later. I hate sewing ends!!!! I do it in the same way you carry up yarn for striped items. Hope that helps

Looking forward to spending even more time here

Hi Ellagy - welcome to the Sheffield Forum  We're a friendly bunch - even to non-locals!!

I saw a tutorial on Ravelry at the weekend about knitting in loose ends....but it did look a bit complicated. I really must learn to do it, tho. I tend to carry the yarn up the side when doing stripes - but this only really works with really thin stripes.

What's your method for knitting in ends?

Cheers, Carrie

Hi Carrie, thanks for the welcome.

I am a lazy person and hate getting to the 'end' of some project then having to start and sew in ends so I either carry them up the side for a few rows twisting the end around the working thread.. or I knit the end in for a few stitches of the new row. Gives the same bulk as a sewn in thread but no sewing to be done... and I even clip the end away after a couple of rows too.. saves going over the thing and snipping.

One day I plan to try the wonderful method of making two loops and splicing the yarn and knitting it into the work.. is it called Russian something or other?

Carrying up on stripey work is ok too.. you just twist the threads together as you carry up and it weaves it into the work with no floats iyswim!

Now hating my scarf (cotton and lacy to go to spanish living sister) cos I want to start some socks!!!!!
