I'm not wanting to sell it or anything, I'd just like to stick a few mp3s of my full songs on t'internet so that when friends or whatever ask me what kind of music I make I can point them in the right direction.
I've recently joined Facebook but it seems that you can;t put your own music on there, or at least when I try and do it it redirects me to some sub-iTunes sort of interface which is way too technical for me.
Anyone else tried to put their songs online in mp3 format? Recommendations?

MySpace is the best place to do this. A lot of bands have their own MySpace and showcase their music there.
www.myspace.com
For an example of one click on the one in my signature (I'm not a band, I'm a promoter/DJ) but if you scroll down and click on one of my 'friends' which looks like a band, you'll see how they do it.
Myspace by far, make sure you sign up as a band or you won't have a player on your page.
You can currently upload 6 tracks but there are fixes and different things you can do to add more if you really wanted.

MySpace is ok, but everyone's got a page these days and it's too big and impersonal and spammy.
If you'd like to join an interesting and interactive community, try MP3Unsigned (http://www.mp3unsigned.com/default.asp). It's run locally, but has a good international rep, and there're a lot of unsigned gems lurking on there.

But myspace is the easiest and most well known...that is why everyone has a page!...i've been on mp3 unsigned and it was ok...but found it a bit awkward to navigate and not as user friendly
I'm in the process of making a site for South Yorkshire bands to log-on, create profiles, share music, news and events and place adverts for band members and gear. There will also be a directory of local music shops, agencies, venues etc and hopefully it will build into a useful community. Will let you guys know when its done
I use MySpace but its too impersonal and often impossible to find something you are looking for.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't MySpace a music streaming site - ie you can play songs on the site but you can't save them? I was thinking more of a site where you could put your music on in the form of 30 second samples and if you liked the samples you could then download the full tracks in mp3 format.
You can make your myspace songs available to download if you wish to do so. Otherwise, just get a free web account and upload your songs to that. Then link your myspace page to these songs so that people can download them
