View Full Version : Come on baby douse my fire.
PaulTansley 28-10-2003, 11:57 I have ' light my fire ' by the Doors constantly in my head and can't stop thinking about it.
Annoying as it is have you got music constantly drummed into your mind, if so what is it.
alchresearch 28-10-2003, 12:02 "Fat Sams Grand Slam" from Bugsy Malone and "Kissing a Fool" by Micahel Buble.
Last week it was "Self Control" by Laura Brannigan.
DaBouncer 28-10-2003, 12:04 "I don't know what you heard about me
But a b***h can't get a dollar out of me
No Cadillac, no perms, you can't see
That I'm a motherf*****g P-I-M-P"
Stuck in my head!
about 6 years ago in a lecture at uni, I had the "Pinky and The Brain" theme in my head. It was only when the people surrounding me started to stare that I realised I was in a world of my own, humming and singing it in a Vic Reeves "Club Singer" style.
Oops.
The term I 've heard used for this is 'being earwormed'.
I don't know if this was made up by the people of this particular newsgroup where I picked it up, but I think it suitably descibes what you are on about.
Recently when TOTP2 was on I was unfortunate enough to be earwormed Dean Freidman and some woman doing a remake of 'You can thank your lucky stars'.
God that is a terrible song. It was terrible the first time - why did they remake it!! Arrgghh!!

I have a 2 y.o. and a 4 y.o. so I'm normally singing...
"Bob the Builder, CAN HE FIX IT!"
"What's the story in Balamorie, Balamorie, Balamorie"
"ABCD.... now you know your ABC, you can sing along with me!"
Arrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!:(
Hardly ever happens to me but I concur that if it does then it is usually to help me get through a boring day.
A guy I used to work with had a habit of getting any tunes he heard stuck into his head and repeating them all day vocally. Sometimes I would sing/hum random songs to try to make them get stuck in his head.
WintersMist 28-10-2003, 15:19 Come on baby light my fire!
TA very much lol  ;) :P
the earworm reference is a translation from the german ohrwurm which has a specific word for this situation.
See http://www.wordspy.com/words/earworm.asp
alchresearch 28-10-2003, 18:14 What really spooks me out is that I wake up with a tune in my head and then it's played on the radio later that day!

tinajones 28-10-2003, 21:43 i've got 'i just don't know what to do with myself' in my head, don't even know who its by -some guitar band thats on the radio all the time.
quite apt cos i've been well busy for the past 9 months studying and now i've finished and although i have plenty of things to do i am suffering from an anti-climax kind of feeling of not having to work to strict deadlines anymore.
Spacehopper 28-10-2003, 22:01 8) Nah Den Ace.........
I can't get "7 Tears" by The Goombay Dance Band out of my head.
I've had counselling, hypnotherapy and electric shock treatment but still it plagues me........20 years of it..........will it ever end?
Regards,
Spacehopper.

Ooh, that one can be nasty when it gets stuck in your head. I had that one stuck all day once.
Today I have Kylie's "Slow" 'cause I heard it on the radio this morning. Great song though.

PaulTansley 30-10-2003, 22:29 I thought Dusty Springfield sang that or is that another song altogether.
