just noticed my house is no longer on rightmove so iv rang the agents who said a lot of agents have been forced to pull from rightmove, she claims they are charging £300 per office to advertise on there,
she says approx 6 agents have asked if rightmove can reduce the price of advertising due to the current house market they have said no,so about 6 local agents have had there propertys removed from there!

That seems very odd, Rightmove is such a big part of advertising their properties i would have thought they would stick with it. And i think they may have inflated the monthly costs a bit there..

I'd be very unhappy with an agent who didn't advertise on rightmove. Are they committed to it in your contract with them i.e. could you now change to a different agent?

The thing with Rightmove at the moment they are charging more like £400 per office per month. There are other alternatives that are free or cost far less where the software that they use is better for the users. The one thing that Rightmove has over its competitors is a reputation. I know that there are plenty of agents who would rather pull from Rightmove and go with another property protal for less cost. Dont really see it happening as Rightmove have such strong attraction! The agent would be mad to rely only on press alone!

My understanding is that they charge agents £1 per house per week, considernig they take 1% plus off you if they sell I'd jack any that quit, or offer to pay the £1.
Anyone know the free sites to advertise on???

many estate agents are threatening to pull out of Rightmove as their prices keep going up and the agents are not making any money these days,(poor things),there will be new umberella sights coming up to rival rightmove many agents will move to them, also did you know that most properties sell as a result of the good old for sale board, and the right price,it is not so much about mass marketing anymore, its a lack of buyer confidence. If your house is very competatively priced or totally unique and sought after you will sell.

i can see what your saying but the housing estate im currently living on is in the fringe of a village and unless you know its up that road most people dont know its even there,
in 4 months we have had 1 viewing and that was a relative of a neighbour,we have reduced the price from the start and now have reduced to our minimum hoping to sell but nothing:(

Have you tried asking your agent if there is any chance of putting a for sale board at the bottom of the road (preferably a main road) you are on to show there is a house for sale up that road? Some people do that if it is possible and legal to do it, it could be something extra to help advertise your property???

Rightmove do charge about £400 per office plus vat not £1 per property however it's a lot less than the property guide charges so maybe they ought to look at staying on rightmove and scrapping the property guide as hardly anyone buys it anymore

it's bound to be affected by the current housing market as are solicitors, surveyors, builders etc it's a worrying time really and no matter what I think of certain companies I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy because no matter how much we slate estate agents we musn't forget the employees who might be losing their jobs there

Rightmove are very expensive for the housing market and very expensive for estate agents. The cost of £300 to £400 per month per branch is actually correct. It's not £1 per house per week as some have said. The issue is that rightmove is the dominant force in the property portal industry and therefore know they can get away with charging the price they set.

I noticed that ELR didn't advertise any houses in the Property Guide last week - just a box with their website address.
