View Full Version : Take me to my PMs 'OK'
Once upon a time.....
I used to get a 'new PM' pop-up that took me to a second if I pressed 'ok', then pressing 'ok' again opened the PM inbox in a new window.
This no longer happens.
If I press 'Ok', I get left where I am
Anybody else having this problem?
(yes, I have a google toolbar, but pop-ups are enabled for here; and I also have Norton anti-virus)
Edit: I've got a better question - can anybody get their PMs by 'ok,ok' rather than 'ok,cancel'?
Do you have any pop-up blockers installed?
To get to mine when I get that PM box, I have to hold down the control key and click on OK (or whatever it is), so it will take me to the second, and then I have to do the same again.
Luckily, I suppose, I knew what this "problem" was, and how to by-pass it, but it was frustrating before I did.
On a related note, I have tried for several days to send a PM to another member of SF, but the Inbox is full, so I couldn't send it. I happen to know that someone else has requested that that person empty the Inbox, but the request has been, up to now, ignored.
It is really frustrating when you have something important to PM, and can't. In this particular case, the time has passed, and it's too late to send the PM now anyway, but I'm sure that the occasion might reoccur.
Strix.
I have exactly the same as you, No box thing that tells us.
Hi Strix,
I've had this if I have a window open with a browser displaying the PM Inbox screen.
I think it's done this for as long as I can remember (at least 96 hours! ;) ) but it is a pain in the rear.
Ann, with regard to full inboxes, sorry, but unless folks keep their inboxes under control then those messages are bound to pop up. The size of the inbox is a 'global' thing, and has to be applied to all accounts. For this reason we've been fairly strict on the amount of space people have for their PM boxes, as if we had larger ones then the we would require more hosting space.
Cheers
Joe
YES THIS HAPPENED TO ME AS WELL ..
SORRY if this is stating the obvious, but it took me a few minutes searching till I realised, - you CAN open your 'PM's by clicking 'PM inbox' about halfway down the main screen on the left side (2nd item under 'Forum Contents')
(Yes I know it's not the same ... and also if it's perfectly obvious to every one else except me!)

Joe, I wasn't complaining about the size of the Inbox ~ I understand that there has to be a restriction in size. My point was that the person I was trying PM had been told in the chat room that their Inbox was full, and was asked if it could be emptied, but that person chose to ignore that request.
It is frustrating when this happens and you have something important to say which isn't appropriate on the public forum but, as I said, the moment has passed now, so I won't be sending the PM at this particular time.
Hi Ann,
I appreciate you weren't complaining but I thought I'd just slip that bit in!
It is annoying - happened to me more than once.
The other user will get an email to their registered address saying 'Your PM box is full' or words to tht effect.

Is it the person I *think* it is? If so, then it's been over a week - "we have e-mailed teh person to try and get them to clear their inbox...".
IE doesn't seem to have the pop-up blocker ho-haa, but FF I have to click it twice.

I had a whole heap of PM stuff I wanted to keep, so I cut-and-pasted it all into a word document with the user's name on it
Saves cluttering up my inbox ;)
So it's not just me having problems with it then?
Anybody know why it's happening? Geoff was stumped, and asked if anybody else was having the same.
If you are, can you outline your set-up too
Is it Norton that's doing it, or is it a Forum thing?
Its never worked for me. Not for as long as i can remember anyway. I click "OK" and it just sit there on the same page! If i didnt know better id say it was the forum being deliberatley stubborn!!

May I just refer you to my original posting, where I asked if you have any pop-up blockers installed. I have the same problem, and I think it's the XP SP2 pop-up blocker which is usually the culprit, but if I hold down the Ctrl key while clicking on OK, it will takes me to my Inbox box; but as someone has also pointed out, you can just click on PM Inbox on the left-hand side of the page if it's still a problem.

Not when you're running ME it's not ;)

Yep, but that's not the point - it used to work and now doesn't, and if we can establish why, Geoff can look at it. If it's just me who has the problem, it's me who needs to change my set-up ;)

...and you're not addressing my original question which was "Do you have any pop-up blockers installed"!

Not that shoud make a difference suddenly. My e-mail works in a pop-up box, and Sheffforum was once fine. I've not altered anything that I'm aware of either side of it changing

You havent addressed mine properly:

I don't need a solution here, it's a straw poll to see if there are others who are suffering. Your answers will indicate whether it is a forum problem.
PS - thanks to the author of the PM informing me it has happened to them since the server change-over

If you're referring to me (which I think you are) then I was never told to empty it in the chat room so I'm not sure where you got that from. In reality, I didn't notice it was full and the email address I use for this forum isn't my "main/proper" email address, so the email notifications were no use. When I did check my email account for this forum I noticed all the "inbox full" messages and contacted people who had tried to PM me (including your good self).
