Bride gets out and is hidden bt white umbrellas. Any idea who's getting married there today? mrs m 18-10-2008, 16:49 Think its the guy who plays Vernon in Coronation Street, used to play tricky dicky in Eastenders. Read in paper a few months back that he was getting married some time in October at the cathedral then reception at the Cutlers Hall. Mathom 18-10-2008, 17:17 Blimey, Sheffield can't half rustle up some top celebs, eh? ;) Plain Talker 18-10-2008, 17:28 oh, Ian Reddington? thought he was a divorcé? and I thought the church took a hard line on divorcés remarrying? They must have one rule for celebs and royalty, an one for the "ordinary" people... Carborundum 18-10-2008, 17:38 Oooh he must be very important to stop the papparazzi snapping - bet they be down the Bowery later on ;-) weenireeni 18-10-2008, 17:59 wow was it really him? how much does it cost to get married there? sounds nice! :) bex_griff 18-10-2008, 18:14 I saw this too, then saw Kevin Webster heading into Cutlers Hall, assumed it must be someone from Coronation Street getting married!! puddinburner 18-10-2008, 18:55 LOL...must have cost million's! penj 19-10-2008, 17:57 yep it was Vernon. my son sang in the cathedral choir but after all his hard work wasn't allowed to gate crash the reception............. cazatron 19-10-2008, 18:23 yes I saw bouncers too. I was stopping in leopold hotel and saw actress who plays Janice In corrie signing in. Don't know why they felt the need 2 hide the bride behind umbrellas!! Never seen bouncers with dark glasses and white umbellas before!! Carmel_Nick 19-10-2008, 18:55 saw janice and les battersby in town wit someone else from corry in gowns, freebee nearly knocked them down as they were crossing the road. Miss Lamb 19-10-2008, 21:34 The bride's gown is gorgeous. Anyone know who design that gown? Dark Moomin 20-10-2008, 06:51 oh, Ian Reddington? thought he was a divorcé? and I thought the church took a hard line on divorcés remarrying? They must have one rule for celebs and royalty, an one for the "ordinary" people... I think its all down to the minister/vicar etc that is doing the service, my dad and his second wife were both divorcees and got married in church. puddinburner 20-10-2008, 07:00 Comes down to having thousand's to spend too and a good thick back hander to the vicar, I should imagine. Can you imagine the likes of us being able to use the Catherdral? Think Not.....unless there's a huge wad involved. Bet he does'nt even go to church, which is so wrong in my view. DUFFEMS 20-10-2008, 07:22 I agree. When we married in Church in 1970 we had to go to hear the banns being read on all 3 Sundays prior which we were quite happy to do. You can't just expect to use the services of the Church/Cathedral just because it looks a nice place for your marriage ceremony (in my opinion, of course). puddinburner 20-10-2008, 07:29 Exactly!!!! I can think of more picturesque churches than the Cathedral but that's my PO again! Then again Marriage is still sacred to me and I would have thought that special day, must be started in a special place, special to both parties.....I'm a divorce' after 12 years of married bliss NOT. It was a shotgun registery office affair and I think that fact affected my feelings on the whole matter of marriage. I've lived with current partner for another 14, would'nt dream of being linked by a church cos just not right in the eye's of GOD, so just changed my name by Deed poll...hey, it's a lot cheaper, nothing changes the fact that we love each other and have two beautiful kids together, who will grow up to know both mum and dad! Just how many kid's these day's actually live with both mum and dad? not many! Plain Talker 20-10-2008, 07:58 I think its all down to the minister/vicar etc that is doing the service, my dad and his second wife were both divorcees and got married in church. A number of the vicars at churches I attended over the years would not conduct marriage ceremonies for the divorced. (they might grudgingly do a "blessing", afterwards) My aunt managed to get her second marriage in a church by using a different denomination, which weren't as restrictive. However, a friend of mine who remarried in a baptist church had to publicly apologise for her "sin" and acknowledge her "sin" in divorcing her first husband, and apologise to the ex husband ( her husband to be also had to do the same, as he was also divorced). duckweed 20-10-2008, 08:31 Even Prince Charles didn't get married in church the second time. They had a blessing. They were married in the Registrars. So it isn't about position or money, it really is up to the individual cleric. I don't know the Sheffield Cathedral clergy myself but from what I've heard they are very unlikely to respond to a backhander. How many people would even dream of asking to get married at the Cathedral? Of course there's bound to be quite high fees as the heating and lighting alone must be a lot. Minimo 20-10-2008, 09:41 Are there any pictures? coltsever 20-10-2008, 13:47 I got married at the cathedral in 2000. It does not cost any more to have your wedding there than any other church. The only condition is that you are part of the diocese. I wasn't so I had to attend church every week for going on a year. I used to go to evensong on a Sunday evening. It really is the most stunning venue. rufus18 21-10-2008, 16:48 hi all, i dont usually post on here but just wanted to clear up that Ian hasnt been married before. He has been with is now wife for 14 years, they have just taken there time arranging the wedding :hihi: They have 3 children. How naive - money talks and the churches (whichever denomination you subscribe to) are rolling in it, they have to maintain. My hypocrite brother got married in church (nowhere near where he lives which they were told was a no no) and paid, from memory £400 for the privelige - that vicar was not bothered, although he tried to use an arcane rule that no photographs were allowed in church (I took a lot of their photos and ignored him, his beef was I refused to pay). |
