First you need to register the domain. I, like many others, use 123reg for domain names. You then need to find a host for your domain.

There are many reasons for keeping hosting & registration deperate.

Heart Internet (http://www.heartinternet.com)do a half decent free hosting package (limited, but then how much will you actually be doing with it?), which is fine if you're looking into building sites, and some of their packages have 1-click installs of software like Wordpress, which is great if you're just starting out.

You'll find a lot of opinions on here which differ and will probably only serve to confuse, and that's not good.

Try Heart Internet's freebie, and register a domain name (for about £6, which isn't bad at all). You can always upgrade the hosting package (and features) later on. Also, unlike some other providers, you can transfer your domain name to another provider for free if you're not happy.

did you get some free webspace from your ISP when you signed up. You might want to move it eventually, but to start with it'll get you going, or at least be a ikkle test bed?

Hello, i'm not going to look at hosting, if your site is going to be for blogging and photos, and want a simple to setup site I would suggest looking at Wordpress which is blogging software but can be customised using plugins to use photo gallery and ads and is easy to install and use.

As long as you have mysql and php then you can easily install a cms from a variety of choices, e.g. drupal, joomla, etc...
