I've recently started a job at the NHS site on Old Fulwood Road. The headquarters of Sheffield Health and Social Care Trust is here, the Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust, North Trent Cancer Network and various other organisations. The PCT also used to be on this site, but they moved out a few months ago, and as a result there is no longer enough business to maintain a dedicated in-house canteen. It shut last week. However, there must still be well over 100-150 people working here. There is no sandwich shop or cafe anywhere within walking distance - the only option is to bring your own, or (if you can stomach it) go to the Tesco / garage back down the Fulwood road.
If anyone opened a decent sandwich shop anywhere nearby, perhaps with a couple of tables so you could sit in for coffee, I'd be your first customer!

Im sure H & S laws require an employer to make provision for mealtimes ie providing a fridge and a microwave or cooker. I also seem to think that when there is a certain amount of staff, more provision is required. I could be wrong, as its years since I did my basic H & S certificate, and i;ve not had to work anywhere where there has been no provision. Does sound a tad mean of them.

Just to be clear, I wasn't having a moan at my employer. We do have a fridge and a microwave. Its not a health and safety issue! I just genuinely think that there is a business opportunity for someone (and no, I don't have any idea what commercial property there is to rent) and thought I'd pass the idea on.

Could be an opportunity for a mobile sandwich van.
I've seen them near building sites and business centres and they can do very well if enough people use them.
Although the area you mentioned doesn't have many sandwich shops at the moment is there enough demand for another shop?
If a mobile van could get permission at least they could move on if demand isn't large enough.
there is a lovely bakery opposite Tesco garage called Aye Crumb Bar (I believe now actually owned by Lilys bakery on Penistone Road).
They make their own bread on site and do nice sarnies.
Home made pies & quiches too.
Very good ham (which you can also buy loose if you wish).
Cant believe you haven't spotted it if you have walked down to Tescos...?
