Martin_s 18-05-2005, 10:06 You could be using something that sits between your email client and the net connection such as spam pal or a virus client that isn't loaded/loading up... There's also a possibility you have some other issues causing problems so the usual scans are probably called for... Jon 18-05-2005, 10:33 Thanks Martin_s but the damn thing is working fine today  Martin_s 18-05-2005, 10:42 Originally posted by Jon Thanks Martin_s but the damn thing is working fine today  Entirely possible that your ISP's servers weren't "happy" or the utility sitting in the middle has loaded up this time around... Either way.. working is good :) tara 19-05-2005, 08:13 I have this problem too and when i go in to tools then accounts then servers, the incoming mail box always has numbers in it instead of the usual ........ ........ .co.uk. then when i alter it back outlook express works then. But the next time i log on it goes back to asking for my password and the incoming mail box has those numbers in it again. Does this make any sense. Yes... it sounds like you have something installed that either "helpfully" updates the information each time you load up or possibly your ISP's installation does something similar. The numbers you see are called an "IP Address" which is basically like a postcode. Most likely it's a 127.0.0.1 which is the same as saying "my machine"... If that's the case then chances are your username is also altered to something like... mylogin@mail.server.com which will be used by the 3rd party application to connect to your mail server... Now... if you haven't installed or are not aware of anything being put on your PC to tackle things like spam, etc.. then you might want to look at your list of programs and start using google to see what's on there and if anything comes up as possible spyware... From that list we should be able to help get you back up and running... My first port of call though would be your ISP's tech support helpline and see if they know any specifics relating to their own software... |
