View Full Version : Nice Area to Live in
 Hi, I am to relocate to Sheffield area and I don't know Sheffield or South Yorkshire at all. I would really appreciate if someone could give me names (or post codes) of some nice villages in suburb of Sheffield and good parts of Sheffield. We would like to buy some character house somewhere a bit quiet. Any ideas? Thank you.
Ousetunes 16-10-2008, 15:07 Ashopton's nice out in Derbyshire.
Gets a bit wet though.
20 minute commute into the city but breath taking scenery.
Certainly quiet and the neighbours won't bother you.
alex3659 16-10-2008, 15:09 apperknowle , just outside sheffield .
StopnSmile 16-10-2008, 15:09 Hi ya
Wow - this thread could turn into a huge disagreement regarding the best areas of sheffield.
My thoughts - I love north Sheffield, Loxley - Bradfield, Outibridge and even (parts of) stocksbridge, some lvoely quiet country pubs, some amazing views over the fields and Damms and right on the boarder of the peaks - all that and only 15 mins to city centre - what more could you want???
millsands 16-10-2008, 15:09 look up S20 lots of different areas beighton viillage, owlthorpe, waterthorpe, sothall, mosbrough village, etc

NEKRO138 16-10-2008, 15:14 Worrall is nice, quiet, rural and more affordable than many of the other areas.

theripsaw 16-10-2008, 15:37 Ranmoor / Stumperlowe / Fulwood
Mosborough lovely - as long as you don't buy on High Street I would think
toonarmani 16-10-2008, 15:53 i think it'll depend on your price bracket to be honest!
Stockers 16-10-2008, 19:31 Norton Lees and Woodseats, lovely estate up Norton Lees, close to town and the Peak district and not far from the M1.
i think it'll depend on your price bracket to be honest!
.... and their reason to be here.. if it's for work in the centre for example, then that would make a difference for ease of travel etc...or M1 access etc
any more details or requirements Vendy?
GrannyGranny 17-10-2008, 14:12 Whats your budget?
There is a huge difference in prices in Sheffield.
SW Sheffield is generally most expensive also if you travel out to the peaks.
Nice if you go west & north west towards Bradfield & Worrall
Basically draw a line north south through the city centre and go for anything west of that line.
Thats my opinion but no doubt there will be people who disagree.
I suggest if you come to view stay for a few days including a week day to get a better feel of the areas.
Have you kids? Where do you work? Do you want to drive/train/cycle to work?
All important when deciding where to live.
To answer your questions: We are looking to buy house for around £240K. Husband will be working in Sheffield City Centre and will be commuting every morning. I work from home. I will remain to own a few properties in Leeds so I don't really want to be completely out of way to Leeds as I will have to go there now and then. So for example North of Sheffield makes lot more sence then South of Sheffield. Thanks for all your help.
Tankersley, Grenoside, Oughtibridge.
Don't know the North of Sheffield that well, I'm sure there's loads more options.
ChrisTPS 22-10-2008, 13:02 Try High Green or Chapeltown on the west side of the M1. Scholes is on the east side of the motorway, try there too.
Oh yes and we don't have children.
We have gone to see some areas last weekend. We went to was Millhouse Green - it was all right, we quite liked it. Then we drove to Wath Upon Dearne - I apologize to anyone who is from there but we did not like it at all. We passed Bolton Upon Dearne - it looked ok but we haven't seen enough to pass a judgement. And then we went to Stannington and Rivelin and they were pretty good.
Aren't Wath and Bolton in Rotherham, not Sheffield?

Do you consider Rotherham to be so far away from Sheffield that it shouldn't be called "suburb of Sheffield" anymore? I think it's quite close. And it has Sheffield post code.
Lulupinkstar 22-10-2008, 14:17 What about Wentworth?.
Or Penistone. I'm sure I read about another forummer in a similar position, who moved there.
Train to work in the City, right next to the A628 (?) for M1 access. And it's a lovely town. :)
edit, actually after rereading, you've been to Millhouse Green, so I guess you've tried the Penistone option.

It has it's own Council and a different phone area code. The same postal address definitely doesn't make it part of the same city.
I certainly wouldn't be looking for a house in Rotherham if I was moving to a job in Sheffield.
It's never been called a suburb of Sheffield to be honest, at best they form part of a conurbation, but it's definitely it's own town, not a part of the city.

Where i live comes under Rotherham Borough Council, has a Sheffield post code, a Worksop telephone number, and we get a Chesterfield phone book free, but have to pay for the others,
footdoctor 23-10-2008, 06:54 Rotherham is NOT Sheffield in any way shape or form. They are worlds apart. Apart from Wentworth it is not worth going to. Try Stocksbridge or Penistone (which is actually in Barnsley). You get a lot for your money in Stocksbridge, it is very green, close to the motorway M1 but not so easy to get in to Sheffield city centre at the moment due to the road (still!) being closed after last years floods.
