View Full Version : Stalking Pete Doherty

Did anyone see this "documentary"? I can't believe that Max Carlish, it's producer, ever had a reputation as a filmmaker (this is obviously the last documentary he'll be allowed to make). In addition to being imature and cringingly embarrassing, he's obviously mentally ill. I suppose it's a little crass of me to say well done to Pete Doherty for smacking Carlish twice in the face, but that's my honest gut reaction.

The most striking scene was just after Pete's mate whacked Carlish for giving Doherty "the smallest guitar in the world", adding "would you like me to buy you a bottle of wine?" and creepily finishing with "can I come and hang out with you tonight?", Carlish, in Partridge stylee, dramatically announces "I have just been hit in the face!" before whining "Dudes, dudes! Dudes, what have I done? Why did you do that?"

They did it, I can hazard a guess and say, because he's an annoying, fawning creep who was freaking them out of their skin.

We watched it, and found the physical assault hilarious. His reaction [you are right- it was pure Partridge] was even funnier. The man is a perfect arse.

I really wish I'd seen this :(

I watched this and cringed. This is the guy who's obsessed with Pete, he sang "You're gorgeous, I'd do anything for you" and meant it!
He's the kind of bloke who'd walk into a pub and suddenly everyone remembers they've got 101 things to do, places to go, rather than be stuck with him.
He told anyone and everyone that would listen that he was bi-polar, but this guy is a media studies lecturer, OMG I feel for his poor students.
Then to top it all off, he filmed himself crying :loopy:

Cutglass,
Avoid all 'Media Studies' lecturers at all cost. They are perfectly dreadful people who 'deconstruct' Coronation Street, and discuss 'semiotics' in relation to The Simpsons. If you do meet one, strike him [they are usually wispy-bearded, neutered males] hard in the sub-navel region before he has a chance to engage you in the latest post-post- poststructuralist perspective on Ballamoray.

Dunno where the gig was in Sheff, just heard the guy talking to himself on camera again bemoaning the fact that he was "on a dreary estate in Sheffield", his words not mine. But I couldn't make out any details of where he actually was.

You beat me to it, Timo - I was going to say to give any Media Studies lecturers a very wide berth, even more so than Media Studies students :suspect: Pretentious and pointless beyond words.

I'm sorry now I missed this programme - I could do with a good laugh at the moment.

PS From what I've read on this thread, good on you Pete!

I'm sure you're right timo, but I for one would be fascinated to hear the latest post-post-poststructuralist perspective on Balamory (one "L", no 3rd "A"). It's my favourite TV program, up there with Big Cook Little Cook.

But would it still be your favourite tv programme once you'd heard a post-post-poststructuralist perspective on it?? :D

Or would you never be able to watch it again, do you think??

Whatever else, Balamory must have the most irritatingly catchy theme tune I've ever heard in my life :help:

StarSparkle :)

PS I want to know more about PC Plum's 'friend' in Italy! :suspect:

Dan and Starsparkle,
Believe me, gorgeous creatures, if I wanted to I could write a spoof article, entitled [off the top of my head], 'Towards a Post- Post- Poststructuralist Critique of Ballamoray', fill it full of obscure terms like ' paradigmatic dualism' and 'downward conflation', and some third-rate Media journal would publish it.

Yer on, timo!

Do you think they'd publish it, even with your mis-spelling of "Ball-a-moray-(eel?)"

StarSparkle: yes, totally catchy theme-tune, as are most of the tunes in the programme. They're all so funny as well, they're like pastiches of themselves (oops, better be careful I don't slip into post-post-post-structuralism here). And I love the Scottish kid's accent on the theme tune "going to the nurse-err-ay"

Hmm, methinks we're wondering slightly off topic again :)

Just...such...a creepy guy!

e.g.

"I thought I'd finally formed a relationship with Pete, but then it turned out that he hated my guts for following him around..."

Or similar

Apparently Carlish had suffered depression before making this documentary.
