Hello, I am moving to Sheffield soon and have seen a few houses advertised in the Firth Park area. Can anyone tell me any information about Firth Park and whether it would be worth looking at the houses there? I have a five year old son and information about the local school, crime rate, etc would be useful. Thanks

Welcome to the forum!!

Personally I don't rate Firth Park having lived there for a little while during my teens - things may have changed though since.

On the schools front you may want to check out www.sheffield.gov.uk and click on the Education link - there is a search function for schools giving catchment schools and links to Ofsted reports.

Happy house hunting and good luck!

Hello Shel

Well as my user name suggests i live in Firth Park and am called andy. I been here for a few months It ok here some streets better than others, the centre is great with a mixture of shops and good doctors and dentists and an excellent vets.

The park near the centre is great and is full of families on a hot day so loads for your kid.

As for you sure you will find te new concord sports center great for swimming keeping fit etc.

PM me if you have any other questions

I've lived here several years (Firth Park). It's not known as the best area of Sheffield... that's true, but... the following is just my personal observation: it's gone from good to poor and now it's going to good again.

The houses are generally good quality, cheap prices often for nice gardens, 3 bedroom or more. Its mostly council housing (or ex-council) but a fair bit of new building is now changing the mix... more old people's and new starter homes etc.

The schools I don't know but there is a lot of community activity going on, training, surestart, and stuff.

The people are generally very friendly. Still a 'local community' atmosphere which you don't get everywhere.

Also there's plenty of shopping/library/banks/ post office etc in 'Firth Park centre' (near roundabout) so no need to go to town much - but buses from there are pretty frequent to Sheffield and 'Meadowhell' shopping centre.

Is this any help?

I have had no problems so far except some unknown pet walker lets their animal routinely soil the pavement outside Fads, the local decorating shop.
