Hi all,

Well finally getting to a point of flat-hunting but I'm just wondering what anyone would think elec, gas, water bills would be *approx* for a single person? I know this could be anywhere in the air but I'm just trying to figure out what these would cost so I can see what rent I can have a look at.

Cheers in advance,

Paul.

For Gas/Electric it depends how you decide to pay and if both are from same supplier is any electric on E7 rate , budget for around £20 to £30 a month should cover Electric/Gasand your water bill again would depend if the flat was on a meter or is charged on the old rateable values which applied to property before it charged to council tax but as a guide budget for £25/£30 a month.Just a reminder as a single person claim your 25% discount on your council tax as every penny counts!

I'm just gonna add my 10 pence worth.

I used to work for Scottish Power, if your not currently with them and you live in Yorkshire you can be saving about 20% on your Gas & Electric. Currently they are the only Gas & Electric Wholesaler and so they can afford to offer the best rates. To find out if you can be saving money go to www.uswitch.com and it will tell you the cheapest people for you.

(To get 20% cheaper you are required to pay by Direct Debit and purchase both gas & leccy from them)

I'm not advertising for them, as I no longer work for them. They could blow up for all I care :D

I live in a studio apartment with my boyfriend. We get 25% off council tax as I'm a student. The council tax bill for the year is £600 odd quid for us.

We budget £20 a month for leccy, as we don't have any gas in our apartment. As of yet, we've only paid £6.70 for 2 weeks usage lol! (After I challenged their estimate which was £31, dated 2 days after I called them to say we'd moved in!!!) They haven't billed us since. Hmm... :loopy:

I don't know if we're meant to pay for water or not... I rang to tell them we'd moved in, but that was 2.5 months ago and still no bill/acknowledgement of my registering! Mind you, they never charged us for water in the last place and we were there 9 months! (It was stated that we had to pay it, as it wasnt included in the rent) lol

Thanks very much everyone, this is very helpful :) Now I can budget better and figure how much rent I can afford to pay.

A friend of mine has never had to pay for his elec and stuff for some reason and that's in the centre of town!

You do, but they send out the bills quarterly - if you have been there for over two months already, you should get one soon :)

PS. I didn't get any acknowledge of my registering with them either, just the bill three months after I moved in.

Yippee, I've got that to look forward to... How much was your bill Tracie? (If you don't mind me asking...) I just want to know how much to save... The apartments are only small and we're quite frugal.
