I hate how london road looks now. compared to when? haven't been round that side for a while...how many new do we have? CorkerSWFC 14-10-2008, 21:55 Yeah i agree and not only that, the standard of food delivery from many takeaways is going down big time. Piquant 14-10-2008, 21:56 Restaurants? The last time I was there there were a lot of junk food / fast food places but no restaurants ericsean 14-10-2008, 21:58 Dunno really. ive not really been on there for years. its just one long prossesion of eating houses. I think its about time Sheffield council started refusing applications for them. Dont get me wrong, its nice to have a good range but i think there is enough now. ericsean 14-10-2008, 22:01 Restaurants? The last time I was there there were a lot of junk food / fast food places but no restaurants Thats what i meant really. Looks a bit ropey now dosnt it?. Just look at the nice places on eccy road to compare... CorkerSWFC 14-10-2008, 22:02 Restaurants? I am unaware of any restaurants in Sheffield i.e. where fresh food is cooked by a chef or cook rather than someone just reheating something from Iceland in a microwave. Please please tell me I'm wrong. taxman 14-10-2008, 23:05 Does this not apply to the whole of Sheffield? Well most of the restaurants on London Road for a starter There can never be too many restaurants..it's called choice and the times I've eaten in the restaurants on London Road recently it has been excellent Alastair 14-10-2008, 23:08 Does this not apply to the whole of Sheffield? I find the choice, quailty and service better even excellent. I like London road its close to town so if u fancy a drink after, its not too far. If you look at London road on most wk nights u will find it packed. What does that tell u??? DIVA 15-10-2008, 02:23 I think it's great. London Rd has become the place to go to eat. Some excellent restaurants. The amount of poor quality takeaways though does bring it down. chinaski 15-10-2008, 07:32 I live around ecclesall rd and and it's pretty terrible for eating places. London Rd is where to go. shame it hasn't some better boozers though. myriadmike 15-10-2008, 08:01 Theres a great number of oriental restaurants up there now, its fantastic in terms of choice, Noodle Inn, the dumpling place, Vietnamese Noodle Bar, Siam Thai Inter, Wasabisabi etc. Couple that with the quality turkish places, Jumeriah, Zeugma (and its second restaurant), the other Turkish place, and then add to that all the italian/european places, and although there are about 5 too many, the kebab shops are actually pretty good and cheap too. I'd rather see these places being used than half derelict like it was about 2 years ago. Captain_Scarlet 15-10-2008, 08:03 London Road has been like this for many, many years and it is great to see a bustlling, busy street. There are some really nice restaurants on that road. Dining experience is much better on London Road than branded Centertainment or Meadowhall joints... Wasabi Sabi, the greek restaurant, Golden Lee, Jabu to name but a few. brianthedog 15-10-2008, 08:30 I love London Road. There's nothing wrong with variety. I'd rather take the slightly scruffy private restaurant with decent food than the corporate polished looking restaurant with poor food. Basically, I'd take London Road over Ecclesall Road everytime. True about the pubs. Although 'proper boozers' they are a little run down. Still can have a good night there - unless United have been playing when all the people who should really be cannon-fodder are out. beansforyou 15-10-2008, 08:31 I wish Kebabish would open in Hillsborough MrNM 15-10-2008, 08:33 Dunno really. ive not really been on there for years. its just one long prossesion of eating houses. Are you having a giraffe!?!?!? Words fail me! forumer 15-10-2008, 08:34 There is just too many. I hate how london road looks now. Utter rubbish. Some people will moan about anything. It's called choice. There are loads of fantastic restaurants here. The fact that it looks a bit scruffy is because the area hasnt had much investment in terms of the road and pavements etc, not because of the new restaurants opening. neeeeeeeeeek 15-10-2008, 10:24 There is just too many. I hate how london road looks now. I agree, it was much better when every second building was a closed down boarded up shop covered in graffiti and old posters. brianthedog 15-10-2008, 10:30 I agree, it was much better when every second building was a closed down boarded up shop covered in graffiti and old posters. lmao. Can't understand posters who criticse an area for popular. Very strange. I suspect people who don't like London Road because of the variety are the same people who eat in the same pub/restaurant because they always have done and don't see the point in trying anywhere new. a.k.a. idiots. crookesey 15-10-2008, 12:06 There is just too many. I hate how london road looks now. What would you replace them with, mobile phone shops, pound shops and banks like the city centre? Have you stopped using London Road because of it's restaurants, or have you never used it but don't like the idea of other folk enjoying themselves? InSheffield 15-10-2008, 14:20 I live near London Road and think it's great. There are lots of fantastic restaurants (and some not so good ones, but there's so much choice, I never have to go to them). There are also a lot of takeaways, but they mostly seem popular, so why not? It would be nice to have a few more non-food stores, but they weren't flocking to move in when there were lots of empty shops, so it's hardly as though the food stores are forcing them out. And in terms of pubs - maybe not the best choice, but Dulo's, the Cremorne and Old Crown are all pleasant enough, and pretty varied, while the fantastic Sheaf View is only a short walk away. myriadmike 15-10-2008, 14:51 I've lived within 5 minutes walk of London Road for 5 years in 4 different properties and its always been a great place at night, the only trouble that has been up there is gang related violence, but even that is rare these days. Swami Dhyan 15-10-2008, 16:28 Dunno really. ive not really been on there for years. its just one long prossesion of eating houses. Hi, forgive me if I've missed something but...if you've not really been there for years, how do you know about the "procession of eating houses? I live within walking distance of London Road and agree with those posters who have extolled it's virtues. We had a foodie meet at Rossi's only last week. Viva London Road! sparkleshoes 15-10-2008, 20:31 Theres a great number of oriental restaurants up there now, its fantastic in terms of choice, Noodle Inn, the dumpling place, Vietnamese Noodle Bar, Siam Thai Inter, Wasabisabi etc. Couple that with the quality turkish places, Jumeriah, Zeugma (and its second restaurant), the other Turkish place, and then add to that all the italian/european places, and although there are about 5 too many, the kebab shops are actually pretty good and cheap too. I enjoy trying them out and going somewhere different each time. There are new student halls around that area, so restaurants will be in more demand. I personally hope that London Road will become Sheffield's China town. I know some people may not agree with that. As for the restaurants om town, I still havent found a good one that I would want to be a regular at and even though I love sushi, the new Sushi bar in town is terrible-dont waste your money there! tab1 15-10-2008, 20:39 Utter rubbish. Maybe they harking back to the good old days of larger louts partaking in running battles from the Hermitage to Cremone. Aaah them were the days eh? London Road has never been more peaceful or better than it is now:thumbsup: axeman 15-10-2008, 21:32 As someone who lived in the area from childhood and who now visits his mum now and then , I'm appalled at the amount of food and rubbish disguarded on the roads. Alastair 15-10-2008, 21:47 As someone who lived in the area from childhood and who now visits his mum now and then , I'm appalled at the amount of food and rubbish disguarded on the roads. I quite agree, we need to guard our food and rubbish much better. |
