I've heard of a few ways they do it. Either a small cut and they place it inside or i've heard they can now inject it???? Dont know if that's true.

Tempted to take my Charlie but him being a yellow Labrador who love shedding hair (especially at the moment as it's warming up!) he totally messes the car up !! It looks like it's snowing underneath him as he walks!

You're right strix which is the reason i'll get him done. He's a swine for running off to other dogs which may lead me to getting other things done. 'Ouch' says Charlie

Darn it - I paid £21 to have my kitten done yesterday at the vets... if only I'd known. Isn't hindsight a rotten thing sometimes

The one the vet inserted was like an injection, done in the scruff of the neck and it didn't really hurt her much at all. It is very difficult to feel it now that it is in.

yeah, i got my dog microchipped today...

I had been meaning to get it done for the longest time, but, meh, he's done, now... and he got his nails clipped, too, so got him sorted out in double quick time.

All the micro chips are, is a teeny, tiny pellet, hardly the size of a grain of rice, that the vet injects under the skin in the nape of the animal's neck. It's just like when the vet gives the animal its booster jabs. It's that quick, and that simple.

The animal suffers no ill-effects, and it means that the animal is identifiable, shouls it get loose, or, god forbid, get hurt in an accident.

I hope the weather is nice and so I can have a leisurely stroll into town with Max and get him chipped. When I first got him he was so cowardly or rather terrified that I didn't have the heart to put him through anything that wasn't strictly necessary. Time passed and some how he managed to avoid the pleasure of being chipped but I've put a note to remind myself on top of my television unit and he's going to be done!!!

Can the details of the chip be changed once its in the pet?

I'm moving house soon.

Yes, they can. The chip contains a unique number that is then matched to your information in a centrally held database. So there shouldn't be any problems changing the information.

You're a lifesaver can do my cats now, and breathe a sigh of relief as we're living all over the place just now. My biggest worry is they'll get lost trying to go home when I move them about.

Max is now the proud owner of his very own micro-chip. It didn't bother him in the least and as I was there at 9.45 there was no queue and the procedure took less than a minute. I enjoyed the walk into town although I don't think Max was too impressed as I did wander a bit looking at all the things that have changed since I was there last week.

Just to confirm, they actually inject the chip, its quite painless to the animal if its done right, they are usually injected just above the shoulder blades.

Just one question,

If I have the dog chipped will it be able to eat imported dog food :D (Think XBox).

Or is it like chipping a car and he'll run faster.....

Sorry, i'll get me coat.

I've just chipped my cats.

I've now found that if I fiddle with Patch's bum she can change the tv channels, but if I fiddle with Blackie's bum he just lays down and purrs. I do worry about Blackie. But then again, he seems to live a happy life.
