I heard today that they have officially started work on the new Tram System in Leeds. I wonder how this will compare to the Sheffield one? Can you remember all the chaos building the Sheffield one caused. There was things like local business going out of business because nobody could get to them because of all the road works. The moving of Cemetries on Penistone Road and the Catherdrel. Does anyone have any info about the system, is it going to be just a few lines completed first similair to the Sheffield one or are they going to complete the whole network. Who is going to be running the Leeds Tram?
i dont think it'll even compare to ours really, since Stagecoach took over its one of the best things in the city.
Manchesters Trams are horrid! single seats on each side :|
Apparently, its the METRO consortium who are running it (same as manc)
It will be a good thing to have a supertram in leeds, at a cost of 500 million pounds it will be well worth it. Apparently, there will be three lines running into the city from different directions.
Even though there is bound to be disruption and chaos for a while, you cannot launch a massive project like this without some inconvenience.
When it is finished it will provide an efficient way of getting the people around without cars jamming up the roads. They have to do something to encourage the travelling public to leave their cars at home.

Not much progress so far, is there?
I thought it had been scrapped now? but only after several junctions etc had been built?
No doubt they'll be raving about it on Look Leeds in the near future.

You are an angry little man arent you?
You are an angry little man arent you?
No! :hihi:
They've done a few bus only lanes instead, as far as I've seen. They're in the centre of the road instead of at the side. And they also have a double length bus, can't remember what it's called. It's a shame they didn't do a tram service in Leeds, I think it would have been worth it.
There is a good wikipedia article on Leeds tram here :

Can't blame Mr Darling for wanting to ditch it if the costs doubled and the routes being cut back to save on costs :)
