View Full Version : Photo competition themes
Right, I'm being really decisive here & am arranging a meet for next Tuesday evening at the Harlequin on Nursery Street at 8pm.
The purpose for this meet is to decide on another batch of themes for the photography comp. So, if you have some good ideas, come along. If no-one turns up & I'm on my own - well the world will be my oyster!
If you have a burning desire for a specific them & have a really good excuse not to turn up (including a note from your Mum!) then pm me with your idea & I'll put it to the masses that turn up on Tuesday.
So, if you want to be part of the decision-making process - come along on Tuesday!

Tuesday no go for me because of teh job... but I'm thinking 'technology' would be a good one that is open to interpretation!
We'll also be discussing possible venues for meets. again, if you can't make it & have a great idea for somewhere to go as a group, then pm me & we'll discuss it Tuesday.
Please post if you are going to be able to make it, thanks!

ok, I'm confused.
There are 2 trains of thought. While Some people say there is Tuesday then next Tuesday - being the 2nd in the sequence.
And there are people who say that the Tuesday coming is the next one.
If 'Next' means the 14th, I cannot come.
If it means the 21st, I can. :D

Sorry if I was confusing in my decisiveness! I meant NEXT Tuesday, which to me means 14th as that is the NEXT Tuesday to come. If I'd have said 'Tuesday week' - that means the 2nd in the sequence, being 21st.
Hope this clarifies matters!:D

cool. Thank you for clearing it up.
I'm not sure if I will be able to make it - I'll pm some ideas.
ImpInaBox 12-10-2008, 13:00 Count us in, Hemlock - well me anyway and probably Ms Imp too. Can't have all next year's comps being about lichen on walls can we! :D

I don't see why not! I may stand a chance of winning then:hihi:

Does anyone have any suggestions for themes? Even if you can't make the meeting, you could make suggestions here - I'll start with Pets, as so many competition entries seem to feature pets, no matter what the subject is!
metalman 13-10-2008, 11:43 Portraits might be an interesting one, though there are various privacy issues and so on to overcome with it.

Yes, we do need people's suggestions. I have already suggested people pm me with suggestions & then I will take these to the meeting on Tuesday. Not everyone wants everyone to know what they suggest, that's why I suggested pm'ing me, so people's anonymity can be kept. Also, if we have more suggestions than months in the year,:D then if any are not chosen, there is no public embarrasment!
BUT, we would much prefer for people to show their interest, be involved in debate & actually turn up!! Remember, those who turn up have the last say & are an ACTIVE part of the decision-making process - this is what we want.
So, come on folks, come for a drink tomorrow, enjoy yourselves & have your say:)

paul28uk 13-10-2008, 14:24 Is there any parking? I kinda think I know where it is so I wouldn't mind coming along. I always seem to follow the forum but never attend!
HarryMac 13-10-2008, 15:20 Hya i know i am new here and dont know if you have covered these before. Still life and also abstract are good subjects, gets people looking and they can get their thinking caps on by setting something up at home if the weather is rubbish.
Cheers, H.
paul28uk 13-10-2008, 15:42 Sport, you never really see that either.
Contrast?

garydickson 13-10-2008, 18:16 How about having a colour as a theme?

Yes there is parking, so there shouldn't be a problem coming in a car. If you carry a camera or something, then we will know you are there for the meeting & we can make ourselves known to you. Look forward to meeting you!

Interested enough? yes.
Already busy though :(
ImpInaBox 14-10-2008, 21:57 Where wuz everybody then??? C'mon guys (and gals) if you don't turn up you don't get a say so next year is going to be Hemlock's year. Competition subjects (as I remember them) include 'walls', 'lichen on walls', 'cracks in walls', 'lichen in cracks in walls', 'bricks' and 'tree bark'. :gag: Ms Imp and I were a bit late getting there but did manage to get one subject in before Hemlock had finished writing... so in December 2009 it'll be 'weddings'.
No doubt Hemlock will post the list in full in due course.
hockeybear 14-10-2008, 23:02 Mike, I didn't come because I had to be at the ice rink with my daughter, but to be honest I have stopped entering the comps anyway. It was, and still is a great idea to have the monthly comp, but this month the winner is going to be the person with 7 votes. I mean 7 votes!! jeez, if nobody can be bothered to vote then whats the point?
I'm busy on Tuesday evenings (most evenings in fact), but can I suggest a theme or have I been ruled out now? :(
"Other photographers"
paul28uk 15-10-2008, 08:17 Yeah I was coming to the meet but someone called about a possible project for me so I had to divert!

Hee hee Imp! I'm not that predictable am I? :hihi:
Dafoot - you just want 'other photographers' because everyone has pictures of you in compromising positions with your tripod!:D
Seriously, we did come up with a list of themes for the whole of next year.
THe themes are (January - December):
Conflict
Luuuurve!
Weather
Creative Cranes
Technology
Expression
Urban detail
Leading lines
Street Life
Domestic still-life
The dark side
Celebration
So, there we have it! Thanks to the 4 people who turned up. We tried to throw in one or two to make you really think, & tax your photographic creativity (that's me out then!)
We also decided to have a 'Night in the City' meet in November, so anyone who is worried about prowling around town with ?1,000's of pounds worth of equipment on their own at night, can prowl in the relative safety of numbers! Does anyone know when they switch the christmas lights on? Perhaps it would be nice to make it after this date.

Nah... I don't mind at all if those pictures never surfaced again! Just thought it'd be fun :)
Street Life
Hmm... take the bull by the horns then and do an area of photography that I've not tried yet. Largely due to my own paranoia.

Prowl? You make it sound seedy! :D:thumbsup:
Maybe we should ask some of the forum bouncers to come along with us?! :hihi:
ImpInaBox 15-10-2008, 14:15 Was there no lichen at all then? Did I just dream it? I thought there was something funny about that 'Super Nova' beer! :hihi:
