A friend of mine is having problems at work and is needing some legal advice. I’ve had a look in the yellow pages and on the good old Internet but am lost in the amount of choice. There seems to be more solicitors than plumbers.

Anyone recommend a decent solicitors who specialise in employment matters - preferably one that will meet you for an initial free chat before charging. I don’t mind paying the money - actually, that’s a lie - I hate paying money. However, I want to make sure that they are the right firm/person for the job before forking out.

Howells Solicitors or Sheffield Law Centre or a CAB. Do check your household and car insurance if you have any as often they tag on free legal advice as part of your payment. Also, are you members of a union - if so they have specialist employment solicitors they can consult for you.
