Planning an outing to Alton Towers next month in the car.

I'll be heading down the M1, getting off at J28, then is it signposted all the way from there??

Sung to tune of well-known song by Tony Christie

Chorus
Is this the way to Alton Towers?
Ive been wandering round for hours
Trying to get to Alton Towers
I feel the need for speed you see

Show me the way to Alton Towers
I'm not going for the flowers
Gonna ride at Alton Towers
And let the thrills get into me

(Verse)
On a sunny mornin'
On the M1 I'll be yawnin'
Set off early you'll see
Alton Towers is where I'll be

Just along the highway
Where the turnings at
I got my directions
To where the Log Flume's atttttttt!

(Repeat chorus)
Is this the way to Alton Towers?
Ive been wandering hours and hours
Trying to get to Alton Towers
I feel the need for speed you see

Show me the way to Alton Towers
I'm not going for the flowers
Gonna ride at Alton Towers
And let the thrills get into me!

Hope I see the turnin
For Alton Towers I am yearnin'
Got my gnome to come with me
Know that I'll get in for free!

Repeat chorus

Is this the way to Alton Towers?

Trying to get to Alton Towers

She's back everyone! msnutty and her irritating text speak is back! We have missed you so much msnutty. Glad you're still on the forum - you do know you have a fan club don't you?

Back on topic: Alton Towers is where I used to go for Sunday school outings as a kid. Lovely gardens, a pagoda, and after a picnic, we would play bat and ball before wending our way home from an enjoyable day out.

I was in a nearby village last year. You could hear the screams of the Alton Towers punters, being scared half to death on some horrendous ride that plunges you around at a gravitational force normally reserved for astronaughts. Didn't go inside, but the rhododendrons looked nice - so some things haven't changed!

Me and the missus went to Alton Towers last thursday and I gotta say that RITA is absolutely fantastic.

It does make you really nervous though when you sit in the chair and are strapped in... also waiting for the lights to go green, then the little pause before you are shot - and I say shot - from 0-100 in 2.5 seconds... you can feel it as well.

Fantastic ride and a very worth addition to AT

ALSO: quick tip for you.
Book online!! I cannot stress this enough how good this is for one reason in particular.

If you go for the £30 short cut tickets.. they may be a bit more higher priced but you get a pass for 4 of the main rides to get on straight away- no messing about.

The pass gives you, Nemesis, Air, Log Flume and Oblivion.

Trust me, the feeling you get after seeing people queing for an hour in the Air queue impatiently and grumbling.. only to be greeted by you, pass in hand getting straight into the ride via the disabled/ride exit is something to behold.
You do feel like a VIP... and its brilliant.

Also-- another tip.

If you dont like a couple of the rides on the pass, say for example, you went on Nemesis and Air but didnt want to go on Oblivion and Log Flume like we dont- take the pass to customer services near the entrance and ask them nicely to just have a pass for whichever rides you would lile, ie: Nemesis and Air again or whatever... apart from RITA at the minute.

We did this the other day and got on Nemesis/Air 2x straight to the front of the queues.

Do you only get to push to the front of the Q once?

Yeah, definately going to book online. Was thinking about getting a fast track ticket, it'll be worth the extra few quid!

Thanks for the tip Angelus!

Yeah when you buy the £30 ticket online you get a pass with 4 rides on it that can be used only once for each ride on the pass.

1. Nemesis
2. Air
3. Log Flume
4. Oblivion

But if you ask nicely at customer services you can get a pink priority pass if you want to swap a ride from the pass you bought online.

They are very good like that Alton Towers.. bless em.

Just dont try getting a pass for RITA though- they will laugh you out of the office!!

Tried it on thursday.. no joy.

PS: Just thought of another tip as well.

I dont know what it is with Nemesis at the minute if you sit at the back of the ride- you apparently can feel ill after riding the back row... dunno why though- will have to look into it more.

thts wot i thought but if u look at the fire exit sign it moves, so unless they move the door we must go upside down. i thought it was a gravity wheel.

Yup. I'd love to know this too!

We're heading to Alton Towers on Thursday, and would ideally like to get there before the park opens. We're in Fulwood, any idea how long it'lll take?

Figured we'd take the A61 onto the M1, then down to Alton Towers... is that the best way? :)

They move it all! You don't go upside down! It really feels like you do (at least the first time!) but you don't go all the way over!

MsNutty - trick to check if you're upside down - does your top/hair go in the opposite way to you? I.e. does it go like it would if you stood on your head? No? Then you're not! It confused me n all on hex!

I make the Sheffield > Alton Towers route often, and the M1 is certainly not the way to go!

Its basically an extremely long way round and adds roughly an hour onto the journey time!

Slightly more complicated, (well, when you break it down its not): Sheffield > Dronfield > Matlock > Ashbourne > Alton Towers

Going on Thursday RPG! If you could give more detail, maybe some road names so I can look it up in a map it'd be appreciated! Would rather not spend an hour extra travelling down a motorway!

the whole room moves and they just move you front to back , you do not go all the way over! it isgood and confusing at first but once you been on it about 100 times it gets boring!!!:D
