I know people (including myself in some of the below cases) hooked on series's from america...they feature a lot of episodes 12-24 and seem to retain quailty for at least 3 seasons....why do we not have this kind of output in the UK?
- Prison Break, 24, Dexter, Reaper, The Unit, Lost, X-Files, My Name is Earl to name a few.
i'm trying to think of what programmes can match up from the UK currently showing but i'm struggling....

Dr Who? It seems that british TV might have had its heyday in the late 70s early 80s. Most of the new British output is tosh. Two pints stands as a shining example of the lowest common denominator winning out...
I do like some british comedy, but after 2 series they seem to lose gas and are just repeats with different backgrounds

Don't like any of those apart from X Files, and that disappeared up it's own jacksie around season 4 or 5. Most of the American crime stuff is just like The Bill but with more explosions and 'gangstas'.
Best thing to come out of the USA recently was Firefly and they didn't have the taste to continue it.
The Brits are too cool and just jack in good comedy series early on before they get stale and turn into soap (which is what stuff like Cheers did). We've always done it - even Fawlty Towers only had about 2 series.
