I haven't carrie but i would recommend using the below web site to review hotels. It's a great website what many leave reviews on although do take some lightly! :D

I've only been to Tiajuana (probably spelt wrong). I drove down from LA to the Mexican border, walked across and wandered around this village. Some amazing handicrafts on sale at incredibly cheap prices. Lots of poverty there too. Pretty scruffy. I've been told that the rest of the country isn't like that.

Shouldn't this thread be in general chit chat, rather than Sheffield chat?

Hi i went to cancun last september, it was fantastic!! although we did have a hurricane and had to spend 24 hours indoors until it passed and then it was as if it had never been through. didnt cause any problems and it definatley put me off. Been to florida and Jamaica and had hurricanes and it isnt that bad. Weather was gorgeous apart from the one day went the hurricane went through, not windy in the slightest, infact could have done with more vreeze as it was sooo hot!

If you havent booked yet try A1travel.com they have some really good deals, we paid £750 for 2 weeks all inclusive.

hope this helps xx

I've also been to Cancun, and the last day of the holiday was written off by an approaching huricane.

We later heard from friends we left behind that they were were evacuated to the Pacific side (Puerto Vallarta) the following day.

I think you have to go such places on the understanding that a hurricane at that time of year is possible.

The rest of the holiday was brilliant BTW

No wind, except when the odd storm rolled in.... big black clouds on the horizon, amazingly heavy rainfall and lightening, then bright blue sky and blazing sunshine again. . all in the space of 20 mins.

Like Classic Rock, I walked over the border to TJ when I was staying in San Diego one September - didn't notice any hurricanes or other high winds. We also caught the bus down to Encianda one day. Both TJ & Encianada were absolute dumps, only any good if you're an under-21 American who wants to get drunk. If you're visiting Mexico, I'd advise you to get as far from the US border as possible.

TJ is on the Pacific side of Mexico and as a rule they don't get hurricanes on that side (I think).

I agree, TJ is a dump. Can say I've been but wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Hi,

Went to Mexico for about 4 weeks in July-ish time about five years ago - mainly stayed in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Oaxaca and a few days on the Pacific coast (Barra de Navidad which is quite near Peurto Vallarta). Had an absolutely fantastic time, can't comment on the hurricane season as we were there in the rainy season (which means brilliant sunny weather until about 4pm when it tips it down for 15 mins or so, then back to sunshine again), but can definitely give some tips and highlights and must-sees, like the floating markets at Xocimilco, the stone waterfalls and cliff top pools near Oaxaca, the ruins at Monte Alban and Teothiuacan (spelling probably way off on some of these by the way), Frida Kahlo's house in Mexico City, actually, anything at all in Mexico City which is a fantastically crazy place, oh and loads more too. PM me if you'd like to know anything else.

Also the Thorn Tree forums on the Lonely Planet website are usually really good for answering any specific questions - see http://thorntree.lonelyplanet.com/

We went last Sept/Oct & the weather was great other than one day where it rained but only for the afternoon, however even when it was overcast it was still really hot & we carried on sunbathing etc. Cancun was excellent, good nightlife etc but I do recommend you go All Inclusive as the restaurants can be quite pricey. From what we found if you go A/I its not much dearer than S/C.

If you go try Coco Bongo's its a great night out & if your hotel was anything like ours we went through them & you skipped the queue & went in the VIP area which you can see the show etc better & the price was cheaper than on the door. I also recommend the steak house just up from La Boom nightclub up from the viewing tower they serve around 20+ different meats all cooked on skewers & its all you can eat....absolutely fab for the carnivores out there.

Also go & swim with the dolphins across at the island - its fantastic.

I could go on for ever but all in all it was excellent & well worth the money

Thanks for your feedback, it sounds a fantastic place, we are just doing to take the risk with the weather in September! Going to book the Riu Palace in Cancun and will definitely be swimming with the dolphins!!
