hey guys :)

how many sci-fi fans are there in sheffield i wonder?

anyway am a big buffy fan......and watched serenity, by the same director joss whedon. was pretty good! the acting and fight scenes by summer were amazing!

made me wonder.....what ever happened to farscape? i loved that series. was real quality entertainment. remember spending a whole weekend watching it back to back on the sci-fi channel in 2002!

why do these programs keep getting axed i wonder?

still hadn't recovered from them axing 'the tripods'.....and then they go and do it to farscape.

barstewards.

the lotta them

:D

They made a straight to TV film to complete Farscape, I can't remember what it was called.
It was smaller scale and lower budget than Serenity, but not a bad watch all the same.

You have great taste in science fiction

I LOVED "Firefly" - Joss Whedon at his not-inconsiderable best - and was most annoyed when the series was axed. I didn't enjoy the film "Serenity" to the same degree - although I know loads of people really loved it - but then I'm not really a fan of tv series being transferred to the big screen. I feel the closeness and intimacy of the small screen gets sacrificed for special effects, and I like characterization and story far more than cleverness with graphics.

So personally I like it that "Farscape" wasn't finished off with a film.

To be honest, I thought the 3 hour long mini-series "The Peacekeeper Wars" that they made to finish it was absolutely brilliant - definitely some of the very best science fiction I have ever seen. Really top stuff - it's right up there with "Battlestar Galactica" as some of the very best tv ever. Gripping stuff, really excellent - I don't think it could have been bettered.

If you've not seen "The Peacekeeper Wars" already, give yourself a treat and watch it. If you loved "Farscape", you won't be disappointed.

It wasn't really a film as such, it was a mini-series

They showed it as a film on sky a few months ago, I'd been waiting years to find out what eventually happened to them

Really? I don't think Sky should have done that, it's not a film. "The Peacekeeper Wars" was released as a mini-series, and that was what it was advertised as when I watched it on its first showing on Sky, some time ago now. I think Sky are misleading the public there.

With Firefly it was because Fox (the TV network who aired it) had no idea where to fit a sci-fi western into their viewing demograph, and thus put it up against other popular shows thus killing it off. Fox have a tendency to do daft things like this quite often (Futurama anyone?)

With Farscape it was due to the dense nature of the story - miss a few episodes and the casual viewer cannot get back into it easily, so viewing figures just keep dropping off (Babylon 5 was similar, and only just scraped a final season out of the network).

I'd love Farscape to return one day, and am currently rewatching all the seasons (up to season 2, when Scorpius starts to really come into his own on the show).

I didn't say you did dream it. I said the first time it was shown on Sky it was described as a Mini-Series - which is what it was. The fault is clearly with Sky, not you.

I know you didn't, I didn't see your later post until after I posted that as I was busy googling.

It was a dig at my own absent minded ditziness, not at your post.

The actor never changed - it was always Anthony Simcoe both in the 4 seasons of the show and then Peacekeeper Wars.

They did tweak the make-up a bit between season 2 and 3 to give him a slightly different look - maybe that was it.

Firefly and Farscape were both awesome shows - I loved both and would watch them religiously.

I have the Firefly box-set and Serenity movie on DVD (I thought the film was great).... Farscape is definitely on my "must buy" list :D
