View Full Version : Fish Dyeing fishy fishy fishy
mr.blaze 16-05-2005, 08:28 I was doing a spot of reading on fishies to find that people have been dyeing fish. Mostly the transparent kind of fish, where they inject the fish with a syringe filled with dye. Check this site out http://honors.montana.edu/~weif/firsttank/painted.phtml
I wasn't sure if it was a joke at first but it's really happening. Who the hell thought of it I don't know.
msbehavin 16-05-2005, 08:35 you need to get out more.....or get a job :P
They also dye the fish you eat - salmon and smoked haddock, for example, unless they're organic.
People dislike the pale colour that naturally smoked fish or raw salmon has and whant it darker.
Weird.

Yep agree with that, also those stupid little ornamental desktop tanks with a couple of stunted fish in them that used to be around.Use reputable shops not somewhere that has a couple of scruffy overstocked tanks. Some fish can live a long time in the right conditions.
mr.blaze 16-05-2005, 12:08 Everyones presuming I'm buying fishies now, actually I was browsing for that reason as I'm after some fish with big teeth.

It's the same with egg yolks.
It's interesting, and I think there is an evolutionary/biological reason that color=good

Are you sure? You seem to have a habit of being bitten :hihi: - dogs, rabbits, do you really want to take the risk with fish with big teeth?!
I saw a programme on the news about this type of thing some months back. Really odd isn't it? Why someone would want to artificially change the colour of the food they eat is beyond me.
mr.blaze 16-05-2005, 18:04 From fishies to food, I see the connection here.
I want fishies with teeth and thats final :D Goldfish are for pussies.

My little brother once kept fish. He experimented with all kinds of different species combinations, but one that he introduced to the tank soon took over, dominating the other big fish and ate everything else! It was called Oscar.
Eventually my nature loving brother kept a seperate smaller tank full of lil' Neons (wee bright darty fish that look cool). But he didn't just keep them for show... he was feeding them to The OSCAR!!!
One night when my brother was out, and after having had a few drinks; my curiosty got the better of me and I caught one of the little, harmless neons, and introduced it into the predator tank, just to see what would happen.
(Oh the shame!)
The poor wee thing new immediately it was in trouble and darted away behind a rock. The Oscar banged and banged against the rock to get it out. Every time I came back to the tank it was still there behind the stones, and the Oscar was still making frustrated attempts to get it.
Then, one morning a few days later... it was gone.
Sometimes, when I close my eyes, I can still see the frightened little neon's eyes staring out accusingly at me from behind the rock.
Oh my god. I must be a horrible person!
aw Deavon you meanie! :o
I've got over wanting fish I now have them on my screensaver and that's enough for me!
Has anyone here kept sea monkeys? they're fantastic! I had some of them (until I went away and my sister forgot to feed them and then fed them double when she remembered, most of the little things got squashed by the big food blob and then they started eating eachother! :loopy:
Thanks Beck.
Lol, anyway going to do some more revision now! Been quite good today actually!
