Up until recently I filled up my freezer at Hazlewoods cheap food store, but It recently closed down and relocated to another site, but I don't know where it has gone.

Does anybody know?
I thought it was still going to be at handsworth somewhere.

Apparently...but i have not been myself yet..it has moved just down the road into a unit on the nearby industrial estate. Follow the road past were it was before and its off a left turn further down. You can still use your card...although ive been told its a lot smaller.

Hope you find it. :)

Muddy coffee,

Got to agree with Cruella, although I never went to the old premises, unless it is somebody jumping on the bandwagon, if you carry on down the hill past the old premises and then turn left by the DOT testing station a premises of that type is advertised by a board at the roadside.

Not so sure if it is as well signposted when you get into the estate but it could be the same place.

I have now been to the new premises and agree that is is tiny compared to the old place. But in our opinion still worth a visit because they seem to have cut down on the crap which the old place was so full of, and now have more of the good stuff only.

The main sign doesn't say Hazlewoods any longer it now says XXX Frozen Foods. [can't remember what letters were there for Xs !] And they seem to only have 2 members of staff. In the old days there was about 6-8 of them.

In summary, smaller and better run..

I keep driving past this and never realised it was Hazlewoods that had relocated.

I think it just says Trade Frozen Foods.

The current address for Hazlewoods food store is Dore House Industrial Estate within the Orgreave Ind' Estate.

For the new Trade Store

Travelling out towards Woodhouse Mill pass the old Hazlewoods unit on the left after approximately 300 yards take the first turn left go past the lorry test depot turn right at the T junction go pass Pilkintons Glass depot keep going (approx 150 yards) till you see MAS Frozen Food

You have arrived.

they didnt own the premises, the sausage factory behind does. they wanted them back to food trade centres aka hazlewoods has now moved.

they had to change the name because the didnt just stock hazlewood foods. so hence food trade centres.

job lot stores are a similar concept but they do mostly dried/ tinned food. there is one just down from sheffield lane top and there is one at rawmarsh shopping centre just up from parkgate.

This discussion is all very well, but what is the criteria for getting a card to access this cornucopia of cheap food? Do you have to be a trader, or can anyone join the party?

I dont think there is anything with the main supermarkets labels on .

I could be guessing here,
I think the main supermarkets were not happy that Hazlewoods were selling their branded goods a lot less than the prices in threir stores. Or can someone come up with another reason why Hazlewoods closed down what looked like a very busy business.

I understand it originally opened for civil servants and people in the public sector to get bargain foods. Much of the food was own label stuff which had only a few days left on the sell by date from Sainsbury, Tesco, Waitrose etc..

Although when I got my card, they just asked for a utility bill to prove my address and I had to write down my employer's name and address. I think you just have to be in employment now and not in the catering trade perhaps?

They do lots of weightwatcher pizzas, desserts and other stuff at the moment and lots of cheap quiche and frozen veg, always lots of sausages, wrapped in trays.

It's quite close to me so i'm going to pop down tomorrow and see if I can get a card. I don't have a utility bill with my name on it though(?) will try with my driving license and see how I get on.

I didn't realise anyone could join, I always thought it was trade only - and I was a (not so)Civil Servant so I could have been a cardholder all along :suspect:

Yeah get down there. If nothing else you can fill up your freezer for about £10 instead of £40-50.

Sorry this is an old thread - but does this place still exist?
