espadrille 08-10-2008, 06:03 Does your community have its own Forum?
I know about Hillsborough Forum
Walkley Forum
and Crookes Forum.
I think Stannington has one,but what about all the other areas?
Your community may be better off if you have one that is established as there is more chance that you can get funding for your forum, and therefore help your community.

espadrille 09-10-2008, 07:03 If communities are to get funding from the council , it will be important to get an established community forum and prove they do a worthwhile job in the community.
cgksheff 09-10-2008, 08:26 It may help in getting additional funding, but it is certainly not a prerequisite.
espadrille 09-10-2008, 09:40 I am applying for funding for our forum now. I know that the council is allowing the Panels to have £50k to look at what work is being done in the community Forums.
No forum that I know of for S3.
I'd set one up myself but having run various gaming forums in the past with very little success (one even got commandeered by Monday Night Football fans from Yank Land) I just can't be arsed with the hassle.

£50,000! to look at something?
I don't understand - genuinely.
Do you mean forum as in internet forum, like this?
Or forum as in a meeting?

Lower Stannington Community Forum (http://www.lowerstannington.org.uk)
SHANE-D-PAIN 09-10-2008, 17:12 Not exactly a "Sheffield Community Forum" but a lot of the base users are from Sheffield:

Brightside, Firth Park, Shiregreen and Wincobank are covered by Community North Forum (http://www.cnfsheffield.org.uk/)(CNF), but it seems to do bugger all these days.

You will find more groups within the 'more deprived' areas as the Council pay for development staff and funding for their existance.

Both Walkley and Crookes Forums are run purely voluntarily. What I was geeting at was there may be more chance of getting funding if you run a successful forum

Agreed, and a plan helps too.
As a paid worker for a forum I can assure people that the council don't throw money at forums, they have to prove their case for any funding and are regulated under strict monitoring guidelines.
The amount of funding provided by the local authority is small if any and many forums find money via other means which usually is alot of bid writing for grants. For example Awards for All, O2 or the JG Graves trust (to name a few). The hazy crazy days of the SRB funding for those in the 'deprived' areas has now come to an end and many forums are facing difficulties and may have to shutdown if they can't finance themselves.
Reesh2052 11-10-2008, 13:50 Woodthorpe has a Development Trust so does Manor and Castle , both were Community Forums originally. They make a great difference!

There is South Sheffield Partnership that is a representative organisation for 12 communities across the South of Sheffield too!
Foxhill has a Community Forum too - Tel: 0114 231 5522.

I thought the Kelham Island one was KICA
Smack Jack 30-03-2009, 15:54 I thought the Kelham Island one was KICA
It is and isnt. KICA is the community group but updates, minutes etc go on the Brooklyn and Cornish website as (unless I am mistaken) KICA doesnt have a site. Most of Kelhams developments have their own sections on thsi site and general discussions is for all things Kelham. Many locals use it
kidfranky 30-03-2009, 16:39 i know broomhill has a website but im not sure if its a forum... it would be a good idea tough because its good to chat with the people around you.
